Alejandro Baez<p>Started to look at what modern forums look like now. Besides <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/discourse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>discourse</span></a>. 😅 </p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/nodebb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nodebb</span></a> is nice. Runs light and smooth.</p><p>Flarum liking for simplicity. Although nodebb has fediverse magic. 😎</p>

danirod 🇪🇸<p>Last week I partially deprecated the Discord server for my YouTube channel and refurbished the old forums.</p><p>Reception has been shy but positive by some viewers. I still have to replace the descriptions and pinned comments for hundreds of videos to swap the links.</p><p>We're still powered by <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Flarum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Flarum</span></a>. That thing just rocks and it is more lightweight than Discourse while feeling safer than the typical phpBB / SMF forum.</p>

It's installed on really decently performant hardware, and has no excuses to perform this slowly - it's as though Microsoft invented it or something. It takes 10 seconds just to show one's message inbox (for DMs), and the there is tons of RAM, CPU and disk that's just sitting there, twiddling its thumbs, as it were (I've watched htop and iotop). That's madness. This 10 seconds waiting time is within a low-latency, wired LAN.</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/discourse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>discourse</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/flarum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>flarum</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a></p>

Flarum or it&#39;s extensions might have bugs too, but they are minor and don&#39;t break the whole system, because it&#39;s just cleaner. </p><p>The forum is even better than the ex-chat on Habitica, because posts of inspiring people don&#39;t get push away by chat messages, but will be saved and are accessible to everyone.</p>
