Toronto drivers are creatures of juvenile spite and chaotic lawlessness, snidely disregarding the duty of care demanded by piloting two tons of metal carrying lethal kinetic energy.
Not all of them.
Not even most of them.
But: enough.
(I'm fine.)

@c_9 Sad about the court decision regarding the bike lanes.
I feel that Toronto is missing the ebike revolution we are in the midst of. We'll be behind a decade or more as a city.
"Premier Doug Ford and his government have been given the go-ahead to rip up Toronto’s bike lanes as originally planned starting March 20, after a Superior Court judge denied a request for a temporary injunction.
Justice Stephen Firestone on Friday denied an application by cycling advocates for an injunction that would have halted the removal of bike lanes on Bloor Street, Yonge Street and University Avenue until" an April 16 Charter challenge.
i hereby sentence this judge to ride a bike to work for the next ten years

Toronto hasn't ticketed a single motor vehicle driver for idling their engine for too long since 2019. why? because police leadership don't give a flying fuck about population health. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/no-idling-tickets-toronto-since-2019-1.7471953 #LungHealth #WalkTO #BikeTO
Welp, I missed the group meetup but I still went out for an excellent winter jaunt through the city. Exchanged coffees with @dfraser, hit all my errand stops, and managed to lug a 10kg UPS back up the Bathurst hill from Spadina/College in that yawning black hole of a messenger bag I use for this kind of ill-advised errand.
Lovely day so far, and there is still sunlight in the sky! #dlws #bikeTO #mastobikes

(That's Timm's wild rainbow Brompton there, from Pedaal.)
All right, heading out to 160 Perth to gather up with a bunch of maniacs: https://www.cycleto.ca/coldest_day_2025 #bikeTO #mastobikes
...and then run a set of errands around town.
It is really quite cold today, and WIMDY. #dlws (That's what wool is for)
I don't want to jinx it, but so far Toronto's Snowpocalyse mark III(?) doesn't seem to be much, which opens up hope in my heart that the streets will remain clear enough for tomorrow's scheduled "Coldest Day of the Year" ride, https://www.cycleto.ca/coldest_day_2025 (10:30 am meeting, 11 am departure).
Since I don't go on 100% of the rides I don't prepare for, I'm currently making sure my bike lights are charged up and so on. And keeping my fingers crossed.
Attention Toronto cyclists: Cycle Toronto now has a day for the re-scheduled "Coldest Day of the Year" ride: Saturday March 1st (next Saturday). Same place, same URL for details, https://www.cycleto.ca/coldest_day_2025
Environment Canada warns of a "highly impactful winter storm" starting this afternoon and continuing into Sunday, and advises "Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve." https://weather.gc.ca/warnings/report_e.html?on61
Stay safe out there, folks!
Attention #BikeTO and Toronto cyclists generally: Cycle Toronto has postponed tomorrow's scheduled "Coldest Day of the Year" ride. They haven't announced a new date (or if there's a route change). What information they posted is at the page for the ride, https://www.cycleto.ca/coldest_ride_2025
Heads up, #BikeTO: next Critical Mass is this Friday, 2025-01-31.
Toronto has a date for the annual "Coldest Day of the Year" ride: Saturday February 15th. The actual riding starts at 11am in the Perth Avenue Parkette (just north of Bloor, just east of Dundas, on the east side of the rail tracks). More details: https://www.cycleto.ca/coldest_ride_2025
@shifter
I had no idea the number of winter cyclists in Toronto had exploded like this in 2023.
Snowy bike ride this morning, 5-year-old delighted. Studded tires did beautifully on both mostly-clear roads and on untouched snow - I felt totally stable riding through about 3 inches of fresh snow. The worst was the packed down car tracks, slippery loose chunks under my tires. #FrostBike #BikeTO
#Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow shares her winter cycling outfit.
With this, and the repeated attacks on Parkside Drive: how committed to dangerous driving do you have to be to vandalize the enforcement cameras?
What’s next, speed camera cameras to spot the vandals?
