Our podcast about the fediverse, Dot Social, is one today! It’s been such an honor to host the builders of the social web on this show and to learn from them. We have one more episode coming up in 2024 (read the blogpost to find out who @mike will be chatting with) then rest, then back at it in 2025.

I’m actually surprised that #Threads is doing this. Political content will be good for engagement, but scrutiny by politicians — scrutiny that #Meta has so far tried to avoid — is increasingly likely. #Trump has already threatened Zuckerberg with lifetime imprisonment.

Has anyone made any scripts or utilities that will check your following list on #threads and give you a list of users who have federation turned on so you can follow on mastodon?
I have to admit that @openvibe is a nice surprise. It combines #Mastodon, #Bluesky, #Threads and #Nostr in such a way that they feel like one, but it's still clear what came from where. I basically only use Mastodon, so I'll probably stick with the Mastodon app, but if you use more of these platforms in parallel, it saves you from having to switch between multiple apps.
Threads is making changes that will allow it to surface more content from people you follow in the algorithmic feed, and less from accounts you don’t follow. Creators might see their ‘unconnected’ reach dip.

That’s a lot of words to say: “Ok, if you insist, we’ll show you posts from the people you follow.” #Threads https://www.threads.net/@mosseri/post/DCo4WiOvCB0
#Threads is making a change to its algorithm to show more content from the people users follow rather than the recommended content from accounts users don’t follow.
That's how it should've been from the start. #SocialMedia

I'm not going to post much about other social networks but I will comment that this makes me laugh. The Meta people think there's a magic algorithm. There isn't. Every choice is a trade-off. They think they can make everyone happy? LOFL. When all they really care about is MOAR ENGAGEMENT.
I challenge everyone to listen to Mark Zuckerberg’s cover of Get Low with T-Pain, and then stay on #threads
