Tim Mills<p>Most of the things I worry about with modern tech - covert data surveillance, loss of control over "my" tools thru software-as-service, being forced thru unnecessary "upgrades" - are all less troubling or entirely absent with Linux.</p><p>Having used both Windows and MacOS, my experience is that Linux is more usable than both. </p><p>Easier, *and* it saves me money! 💰</p><p><a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/FreeSoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FreeSoftware</span></a> <a href="https://lingo.lol/tags/TechSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TechSecurity</span></a></p>

ABY BUT IN ALLCAPS<p>One of my pet peeves is when sites pretend to do 2FA but don't do it properly.</p><p>I just tried to log in to my Facebook on my PC for the first time in months, so Facebook wants me to 2FA and told me to just approve the log in on my other device (my phone).</p><p>However, the notification sent to my phone just tells me that someone (me!) is trying to log into my account from an unknown browser, and doesn't give me the option to approve anything. So I click the 'ok' button, and it locks me out of Facebook on my phone and on the browser.</p><p>So, now I have to get into Facebook on my phone again, which means using my Authy app to get the 2FA code, but because I haven't used my Authy app in so long (because I just keep my Facebook signed in on my phone), I need to get my secondary passkey to authorise Authy.</p><p>Doing this means recharging my old phone, updating it, and then updating Authy.. resetting the secondary password on that phone and then using it to log into Authy on my current phone.</p><p>All of this just to tell Josh not to insult women in the local Singles group and call them scammers because they don't want to meet him for coffee.</p><p>I feel like this should be easier.</p><p>*oh, and because I have <a href="https://aus.social/tags/adhd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>adhd</span></a> and can never remember passwords etc, I took a photo of the new secondary password and stored it on my phone in a folder called PASSWORDS - because, repeat after me:<br>CONFUSING SECURITY MEASURES FORCES THE REGULAR PUBLIC TO USE NON-SECURE HACKS</p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tech</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/technology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>technology</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/TechSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TechSecurity</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/CyberSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CyberSecurity</span></a></p>

ABY BUT IN ALLCAPS<p>What browser do people suggest?</p><p>Now that Google is doing so much more of the tracking thing, what browsers are best to use to cut down on surveillance? </p><p>I'm not tech savvy but would like to opt out of surveillance capitalism as much as I can - so help would be greatly appreciated. </p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/Browser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Browser</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Google</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/GoogleChrome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GoogleChrome</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/surveillance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>surveillance</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/TechSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TechSecurity</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/MasterdonHelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MasterdonHelp</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/PleaseShare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PleaseShare</span></a></p>
