When You Start Feeling Sensory Stuff and It's All More Annoying, Here's What to Do Next
Unmasking My Wardrobe Color Choices
I am so happy I bought an airfryer. I often have to cook 3 separate meals at dinner ( with a common ingredient like pasta/ rice) for my #sensory #RestrictedEating household plus some vegetarian/ some not. The airfryer has made life so much easier. Absolute convert.
Believing that your wants exist, matter, and can be met, is the first step in learning to figure out what you want.
Most of us, to varying degrees, learn to suppress our wants in order to live around other people. Or, we become so convinced that our wants are inappropriate that we suppress them.
Now up on YouTube, an #OnlineAutscape2025 “More Autistic Joy” presentation: “Sensory joy to the rescue: emotional containers and portable safe spaces” by Alicja Nocon.

“It's well-known that having a more sensitive nervous system means that autistic people experience more sensory triggers and are more easily dysregulated. But what if we could use our sensory sensitivity to our advantage to bring a sense of peace and joy to helps us get through difficult experiences? In this presentation, I will share a number of practical ways using sensory joy to help contain overwhelming emotions and prepare for unfamiliar of predictably stressful situations, based on my own experience and the experiences of my clients.”
How To Request Sensory Accommodations
It not being conscious doesn’t mean that it’s not actively occupying resources.
Increasing useful internal awareness gently and gradually is most effective and least triggering when it is noticing neutral experiences at non-relevant times.
is it bad to only eat once a day(for me I just eat breakfast), I have around a 23.5 hour fasting period, but I meet all my nutritional needs(I calculated everything to make sure I do).
I'm not hungry throughout the day, or any more hungry in the morning than someone would usually be. I feel great, I sleep better, my stomach doesn't hurt so much, I don't feel awful when I go to bed or wake up. I feel energized and happy, it makes me less stressed and have more time to be productive or spend on hobbies because I just don't have to stress about it.
there's no stress of what and when I'm going to eat next and how long it would take to cook it, if I have everything I need, if I have the time, if i can handle a non safe food that day, ect.
I personally don't see why that would be concerning, but others around me think it is, and are at times forcing me to eat when I'm not hungry and then I feel awful again.
I meeting all my needs. it just so happens to be in one meal instead of two or three. why is that concerning?? its made me feel SO MUCH better. but is it really that unhealthy??
(not asking if one is better than the other. just asking if it would be unhealthy or just fine to eat one meal a day as opposed to multiple)

Can you notice some sensations without judgement about whether it’s good or bad? Without the need to do anything about it? Only noticing?
If you are interested in starting to pay attention to your internal experience in ways that are more gentle, what I would suggest is looking at neutral experiences at non-relevant times.
ok, so a thing I've noticed with these random 10 to 18 hour sleeping sessions is that reality feels wrong afterward.
Like, I think existing -- the conscious experience of feeling and reacting to sensations or sensory inputs from your body (and mind, which is somehow perceived as different for no reason
is a habit.
You have to be in the flow or familiar with how existing feels. Otherwise it's unusual or unfamiliar.
This feels tautological af, but whatever. Allistic people need sad music to know a scene is "supposed to be" sad, so maybe this does bear clarification.

My biggest struggle as a #neurodivergent adult due to #sensory sensitivities and #taskoverwhelm is #showering.
THERE ARE SO MANY TASKS. It's a full-on project. I always feel better once I'm clean but the path to get there takes like half my spoons for the day (even though I shower at night).
I have many #routines around showering that I have a hard time skipping to lessen the task burden.
Things like knowing what you want or need, what help to ask for, how to make sensory overwhelm better, and how to get energy back are all easier to figure out when you have real time feedback from your body about what it’s experiencing.
Can anyone recommend an adult toothpaste that's not mint flavoured (or menthol)? Ideally with fluoride although that's not a deal-breaker either way.
Becoming more aware of what is going on inside you, both physically and emotionally, is invaluable.
