Hello world! #introduction - I'm a #techie who reads up on #legal and #politics and #cybersecurity, especially stuff like #popehat, #techdirt, #emptywheel . Also a #cellist, #programmer, #monitoringengineer, #networkengineer, #proudpapa, #algotrader , #vegan #foodie , #gaming . I care about things like encryption standards and when government encourages censorship. I always appreciate a conversation! Help me find some folks with a boost!

Me - an #Introduction

I’ve worked about 25 years as a #NetworkEngineer in UK Higher Education, still no CCNA. Now with added #CyberSecurity worries. Busy imposing #IPv6 on everyone I can. Learning not to #Catastrophize so much these days.

I enjoy shooting things, be it #Archery or #Photography and tinkering with #Electronics. Got my intermediate #AmateurRadio license, but haven’t done a lot with it yet - 2E1MHB / M7MHB.

I have a slight tendency to amass #Retrocomputing stuff, much to the bemusement of my wife (“Why is there a RML 380Z in the hallway?!? Because I have the other one in the study and there isn’t room for two.”).

Happy #FreeBSD user, yet don’t possess sandals or a beard.

I’ve done quite a bit of #Genealogy over the years. Found out why some of my ancestors suddenly disappeared off to Oz.

If pressed, I may admit to liking #Trains.

Running this server on #Pleroma. Would have been quick and easy to set up if I hadn’t decided to re-architect the home network first and migrate from VMware to #Proxmox. Why do things the simple way…?

I am a network nerd (#NetworkEngineer) focused heavily on #BGP #routing, #DNS #Anycast, and modern #WebServices. I'm very interested in #InfoSec as it is directly adjacent to, and often intertwined with the network layer.

I run my own #HobbyASN, operating AS395089 on the public internet using mainly #Mikrotik routers and switches. I #blog about my experiences at bgp.guru/

I love in #Winnipeg #Canada, and am involved in the local #InternetExchange / #IXP community, sitting both on the board of directors for MBIX, as well as participating in the MBIX Ops Team.

Outside of the Internet, I am also quite interested in #RetroGaming, focusing heavily on the #SNES era.

I just realised my intro went when my instance crashed all those months ago.

Anyhow, hello (again) I am #Debian developer and a #FOSS programmer including #procps and #psmisc I write stuff in #C #python and #PHP

Besides #programming my interests include bike riding, #cooking or #baking and reading, mostly #scifi There is also a starting interest in #infosec

My day job is a senior #networkengineer working on some very large and strange computer networks.
