Before and after dyeing this skein of #HandSpunYarn .

The yarn is 4-ply sport weight, 50% Wool 25% Alpaca 25% Satin Angora

Dyed with black walnut hulls #naturalDye . I boiled the hulls twice, then placed the bath in a shady spot and soaked the yarn for three days.

This was a test dye for a larger project. I love the color, but I'm not sure it's right for this project. I'll decide after knitting a test swatch.

Today was a good day for doing some blending on the drum carder outside. Made three small batts of the darker color fot the body of a softie and one lighter and softer (+alpaca) one for the belly and the face. Used leftover fleece. Some self dyed Clun Forest, an unknown breed local brown sheep, some of the shorter Gotland locks and some alpaca.

For this week's #WIPWednesday :
* finally did the frog back and reknit of 12 rows to repair a series of missed eyelets. Back on track. Fitted it using barber cord for the first time. It's quite oversized so I'm glad to have switched to size S and also with the wider neck opening than the pattern calls for.
* started making a cat of the natural brown yarn that I spun earlier for a collegue that soon expects to welcome a grandchild.

I bought a huge amount of this colorway of rolags (this pic is a fraction). It’s at least a full sweater quantity. For some reason, I started spinning them on my supported spindles. I have concluded this is much too slow for this project and have decided that the next step is clearly to switch over to do this on my Daedalus Starling espinner. It’s the only way I’ll ever make it through this whole pile. I have other great fiber for my supported spindles. #HandSpinning #FiberArts

Public libraries are a truly wonderful thing.

I found a book that I wanted to read, but the copy owned by my county library has gone missing. However, my local library ordered it for me on an inter-library loan and I picked it up today. It has come from a university library at the other end of the country.

I'm now going to curl up in a comfy chair and have a good read. I may be some time (I don't have to return it for 3 weeks)!

I took kind of fiber arts break in July (very minimal amounts of spinning and knitting), so I didn’t actually start spinning the rolags I made in my June blending board class until yesterday. Wow! These rolags are so easy to draft they practically spin themselves! I am so happy. I don’t have any project in mind so I am kind of “intuitive spinning” to whatever weight it ends up as. So relaxing and fun! #HandSpinning #fiberArts

Back on the wheel after a hiatus for back pain. I'm spinning up the Femininomenon batt from Fossil Fibers - my first time spinning from a batt! I don't have a plan, just going with it. I'm not normally into this shade of green but it's giving 90s Nickelodeon and it's so. Soft. Rambouillet/Cotswold Cross/Bamboo/Sari Silk. #handspinning #fiberarts

This year's crafting while #BicycleTouring - an actual Tour de France. 1800+ km of cycling, so not much crafting time.
Did some spinning on my cross spindle. Learned to spin with a DIY supported spindle. Will definitely buy a proper one to explore this technique more. And knitted the lace yoke of a sweater with a fine bouclé yarn from Japan. It's lace and bunched up on the needle, so not very visible. Very nice texture.

My second attempt at #sock #yarn. This is 83 grams of 12 wpi (sport - fingering) blended polwarth, kid mohair, and angora rabbit. I made rolags on my blending board. Next time, I will diz the rolags to predraft them. I've got it divided into 2 41 gram balls, a ready to #knit. It's a gorgeous, natural linen color, no dye, and soooooffftt! I'm a little worried it might be too soft to last. #handspinning #handmade #handcraft #wool #fiberarts
