Fedora Project<p>We're excited to bring you Fedora Workstation 41! Besides everything new landing in Fedora 41 like DNF 5, here are some new things you can look forward to in Workstation specifically:</p><p>* <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://floss.social/@gnome" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>gnome</span></a></span> 47, with accent colors!<br>* IPU6 camera support<br>* Improved Nvidia support for Secure Boot<br>* Ptyxis as new Terminal app!</p><p>Learn more: <a href="https://fedoramagazine.org/whats-new-fedora-workstation-41/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">fedoramagazine.org/whats-new-f</span><span class="invisible">edora-workstation-41/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Gnome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gnome</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FedoraWorkstation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FedoraWorkstation</span></a></p>
.:\dGh/:.<p>One thing I really hate about <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Workstation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Workstation</span></a> is the lack of hibernation. </p><p>It grinds my gears that every day I have to setup all my apps and environments when I could just turn the computer on and get back to where I was.</p><p>It’s a shame that upstream distros like <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@UniversalBlue" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>UniversalBlue</span></a></span> suffer because of this.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Bazzite" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Bazzite</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Bluefin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Bluefin</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FedoraWorkstation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FedoraWorkstation</span></a></p>
Kalpa Desktop<p>What does KISS "Do" you might ask?</p><p>It has the potential to allow for an "OEM Install" experience for plasma based desktops.</p><p>So what does that look like, in practice?</p><p>If you've installed <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Aeon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Aeon</span></a>, <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/silverblue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>silverblue</span></a>, or <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FedoraWorkstation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FedoraWorkstation</span></a> in the recent past, you'll have been presented with a "Welcome Wizard" that allows you to do some things like setup your User, Timezone, Network, and some other things, before ever logging into the machine for the first time</p>
Mr. Matt<p>Oh boy, another issue with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FedoraSilverblue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FedoraSilverblue</span></a>! Wizards Anonymous<p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Fedora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fedora</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FedoraWorkstation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FedoraWorkstation</span></a> 40 on <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Gnome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gnome</span></a> has been benchmarked on <a href="https://everybytecounts.org" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">everybytecounts.org</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>. The new worst performing <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Gnome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gnome</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> distribution. In a way it is becoming more and more impressive with how much bloat popular distro seem to be stuffing. 1285MB RAM use, 2.63 CPU load, somehow not the worst disk usage at 3.8GB, but 24 second reboot time. For comparison <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AlpineLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AlpineLinux</span></a> with gnome is 556MB RAM, 0.48 CPU load, 1.8GB disk usage, and 19s reboot time. Curious why someone would choose Fedora.</p>
