Happy "Ice Cream Day" (アイスクリームの日)!

The celebration was created by the Tōkyō Ice Cream Association (now Japan Ice Cream Association) in 1964, to remember the day in 1869 that ice cream was first sold in Japan (in Yokohama)

I met with a colleague from our Tokyo office last night, and somehow we talked about Yokohama, and I realised I'd never been there, even though it's very easy to get to from Tokyo. It's very lovely.

The first photo here is taken from the Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal (大さん橋国際客船ターミナル), which is an amazing building incorporating grass and wooden floors, and built to mimic rolling waves. The top of it is popularly known as くじらの背中 (the whale's back). .
The second is from the bustling Yokohama Chinatown (横浜中華街), and the last two are taken from the Sky Deck on the 69th floor of the Yokohama Landmark Tower.
