Okay:

Universal Basic Cybersecurity. *

For every organisation, the people through the government provide the means (not money but tools, knowledge and information) to have basic information security in place.

This as a response to the “Security Poverty Line” and the abysmal state of information security, especially (but certainly not exclusively) amongst the SMEs.

*) you can probably guess why I don’t pitch it as “Universal Basic Informationsecurity”. Also, just “Security” doesn’t work, because that is (rightly) used in the discourse around UBI. If it is confused with Universal Background Checks, that’s just a happy little coincidence.

I realise I never did a re-#introduction after moving to my bespoke, artisanal instance. So here it is!

I'm a soon-graduating PhD student at #UBC Biomedical Engineering with a research focus on #imaging, #biomechanics and #simulation of rare pediatric hip disorders like #perthes disease.

My other interests are all over the place: #urbanism, #classiccars, #retrocomputing, #electoralreform, #crochet, #music composition, #linux and #fedi and more I'll probably add as I remember!

In Arlington VA I was at a small meetup last night. Actually only 2 other people showed up. I was talking to the person new to the group and it turns out we are both University of British Columbia grads. Small world.

Yes, they have opened a **second** medical college (#UBC has been the only one for nearly a century), they have increased GP seats at UBCby nearly 30% iirc.

The #nursing side is far more trenchant and challenging, as the largest profession. Most schools across BC have had 25% more seat allocated. NPractitioner seats have quadrupled at some schools. Severe competition for faculty.world-wide slows pace, but BC leads the nation since pandemic.

Did you know? The #UnitedChurch once operated a home and school in #VictoriaBC for #Chinese and #Japanese girls and women. Today, many are surprised to learn this. Margery Hadley, a professional #archivist and member of #FirstMetropolitanUnitedChurch in Victoria, has recently completed a #digitization project that makes the images of the Oriental Home and School available online. It opens to us a now distant world and its concomitant issues.

#FirstMetArchives has been privileged to care for two important historical documents from the #OrientalHomeAndSchool. The first is the #ChineseRescueHome Advisory Committee minute book, 1896-1915. The second is the Oriental Home and School album, a fascinating assemblage of 95 photographs of the Oriental Home community, mainly between 1907 and 1916.

The Oriental Home and School album is now available online. It is part of First Met’s #historic #photographs digitization project that involved digital scanning and description of over 500 images from our #archival collections. These photographs are available to the public on #Flickr. The Oriental Home and School album is one of ten sets of First Met’s #HistoricalPhotographs available for public viewing.

First Met gratefully acknowledges the generous financial support of the #BritishColumbia #History #Digitization Program (2015), sponsored by the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, #UBC.

Not sure if there's someone on here who lives in #Vancouver and would be interested in in-person #Yiddish classes. But the Peretz Centre (by Oakridge) of which I'm a member has a new board and are trying to renew & strengthen a lot of their classic programming like Yiddish classes.

These are in-person in the Peretz library with Itamar Manoff, the new co-Exec director of Peretz & #UBC's new Yiddish instructor too. Pls pass it along if you know someone too! boosts welcome
