Wow, a riveting tale of sunset geometry 🌅📐—because who doesn't want to spend their evening calculating the Earth's radius with a single sunset photo? 🤓🔍 Clearly, classical #trigonometry just wasn't making math nerdy enough, so let's sprinkle in some Geometric Algebra for extra pizzazz. 🎉

Used the laser cutter to make a holder for my class set of spirographs — for the lessons I like to do my students need to know how many teeth the gears have. They write a program that produces the same curve using turtle. (with older students we do the trig, which I just call “magic circle functions” for the grade fives)

This will make it all go much smoother!

Two teenagers have once again proved an ancient math rule.

From Science News: “Some people have the impression that you have to be in academia for years and years before you can actually produce some new mathematics,” says mathematician Álvaro Lozano-Robledo of the University of Connecticut in Storrs.

People who are good at maths, please help!

Adam is trying to divide a circle into three equal parts using two parallel lines. The total area of the circle is 5027sq mm so he needs to know where to put the dividing lines so that each section is a third of that area (ie 1675.67 sq mm)

We have looked this up but it requires a higher level of maths than either of us are capable of without spending an entire day revising everything we ever learnt about trigonometry (assuming that's what you need).

Thanks for any help you can offer, from us, two maths-challenged creative types ;)
