We have toads! As soon as the highs reach 80ºF and the nights cool, the good ole American toad goes on the hunt for lady toads. To get the lady toad’s attention the males make a loud high pitched shrill that will split your skull clean in two. Ok, I exaggerate but it's LOUD! They are most active at night but daylight doesn't temper their passion.

I am yet to unveil the two Toad ocs surrounding Toadbella in an animation, but I couldn't stop thinking about them! They are her super fans and go to the same dance academy together! I will reveal their names when I release the animation.
Today we went toad-hunting. 14 little fellows were carried accross the road and safety put down by the lake.

A few images from today's wander around the woods, watching the local toads making their way slowly to bodies of water, to spawn.

But I don't have any frogs, just toads so I'm going with that. Sonoran Desert Toad (Incilius alvarius).
It's not hard to get them to eat from my hand, but they don't really get tame and I can't tell them apart. They're still hibernating but should be out soon.
Clearing out the greenhouse for spring. I have found a friend. Will pop them back to eat slugs and snails for us. #toad #NatureFriendly #gardening

Why do toads dump their eggs in a shallow pool that will dry up in a day or two when there is nice, deep pool half a meter away?
Do they just use the first pool they encounter that looks somewhat ok?
