1 - The sun was out so I clipped blackberries after work
2 - Found a new (to me) plant to add to my #forest #garden (Astilbe - any #gardening nerds out there who can advise about planting under a shady birch and laurel row, cedars and liquorice fern adjacent - irrigated)
3 - Unwrapped a mystery book from a trip to #Vancouver and I am terribly excited just from reading the first 10 pages. 3 heroines in 1942, holding down the homefront in the Scottish Women's Timber Corps. Women in a repressive Patriarchical society during wartime, can't imagine why THAT's my jam right now... couldn't stomach Parable of the Sower - too fresh, too close... sorry Octavia.

Three good things for today: 4/10/2025

1. Was serenaded by a high-flying flock of sandhill cranes as they migrated north.
2. The bees are swarming the tiny red flowers of the coral-bark maple. You can hear them buzzing when near the tree
3. Blooming blooms: the 3 redbud trees, the oregon grape, the flowering quince bushes, the grape hyacinths, and even (sigh) the dandelions.

Today's good things included:

- writing: used K3's naptime to get some words out, and it was a lot of fun

- food: made leek and potato soup topped with caramelized onions and apples, which was very good

- sleep: finally, a night that was... well, not *good*, but not awful either. Thanks, K3!

1) grew lots of thai basil plants from seeds. It's the first time that basil worked out for me.

2) child-free evening!

3) my grandparents are planning to move into our city, and probably quite soon. It'll be stressful at first, because my grandfather is very much on the spectrum, but I'll be able to help them more. Also I'm very much looking forward to having them in my family's daily life more.

Tricky today

1. Grocery home delivery was in the early part of the time slot, only one substitute, and meant I could get to bed by now (8pm) ( ok, I haven't actually put it all away, the cupboard stuff is still in a bag)

2. The sun came back out when I got home from work

3. Not today: but tomorrow is my GP appt, I guess the past two weeks have gone by fast, and I'm now used to having a headache

Oh! 4: they planted some trees in the building site chaos

When I don’t make the bed first thing, and the cat takes over and gets his perfect floofy blanket fort all set, and I don’t have the heart to get his adorable self outta there so I can make the bed.

Taking a restful lunch break instead of doing all the things.

This cozy hoodie I’m wearing.

It's also #ThankfulThursday :D

- I've made significant progress in my attempt to build my own website using @gohugoio #FOSS website builder despite having no coding background. That means I'm well on track to replace my existing site by June!
- My friend Alex Noriega released some new images I've thoroughly enjoyed. You can see them here alexnoriega.com/2024
- I found a new song this week I've been really enjoying. Wolf by First Aid Kit.

Tiny delights for Thursday:

1. I started a batch of various extracts today to experiment with my first digestive bitters formula: dandelion, ginger, and hibiscus!
2. So many little birds in the yard, and they seem to be getting used to me puttering around out there. Some of them come pretty close!
3. Sleeping in until 6 a.m. (yes, that's sleeping in for me.)

- for breakfast we had porridge with feijoas and tamarillos from the garden
- we had our flu shots at a local pharmacy
- the evening was bright and golden, and we went for a walk

No reaction as yet to the shots. I had an unpleasant stinging sensation at first, like lemon juice on a cut, but it eased within minutes.

Happy day! Once set, the Snickers Instant Pudding is tasty after all, no shampoo residue. It would be improved by a jigger of Bailey's, though.

Foot is healing up quickly from the Big Ouch earlier, when I dropped the business end of a thick metal wire basket, hook first, on a metatarsal. Swearing ensued. Foot a tad sore, negligible limp, only a small round purple spot reminding me to be careful.

Watched Tombstone again. Superb cast, but Val Kilmer steals it. ❤️
