“First Principles Thinking” explains how things should work; “Systems Thinking” explains why things ultimately work as they do. These are complementary & both play a role in the design of a new system.

@juliette @CorinnaBaldauf it occurs to me that, perhaps, those who insist AI is "saving time" have not learned to "see" systems and so are pursuing a local optimisation.

The opposite of tragedy isn't comedy. It's maintenance.
In a century of cascading crises, our survival depends not on grand disruptions, but on the boring, essential work of holding things together. A new essay on choosing to "Fail Gently." #SystemsThinking #Resilience
A thought on "hustle culture": It often leads to burnout because it's just adding more jobs, not building assets.
The real path to financial freedom is building systems that work for you (digital products, investments, etc), not just doing more work.
I wrote down my full thoughts on this "systems vs. hustles" mindset on Medium. I'd love to hear your perspective on it.

War has changed, and the decisive terrain is cognitive. This analysis maps the coalition logistics that keep MAGA resilient, shows how foreign influence shapes amplification systems, and outlines a strategy that redirects momentum instead of feeding antifragility.
Staff SRE available for work!!!
I am a hard working systems thinker who has a unique balance of seasoned TechOps skills, good DevEx chops, experience designing and running SRE programs like Observability, Incidents, and CI/CD.
I was put out of work in June and I need a new gig in short order. Boosts and cross-platform posts appreciated!
#systemsthinking is one of those skills that I thought I had, but I've realized that compared with experts in the field, it's like comparing elementary school to university.
I heartily recommend "Thinking In Systems", by Donella Meadows. It's very accessible, with lots of visuals and cross-disciplinary examples. I think it's a must for any engineer and leader. We need more system thinkers!
In an increasingly AI-enabled work landscape, knowing mental models isn't enough.

Connecting and #queering #medicaleducation, ecology, and ecofeminism, allow for rethinking health as #planetaryhealth, beyond the humans versus nature binary.
#Queer ecology roots for multi-species environmental justice, multi-species eco-solidarities, and #systemsthinking.
For example, these freshwater algae live in peace in eco-solidarity with other life in this #watershed in Ontario, Canada.
"The purpose of a system is what it does."
#StaffordBeer, 1926-2002
We live in an economic system that routinely gives more resources to people who make weapons than to doctors and nurses. What does that tell you about the purpose of that system?
Ancient engineering achievements demonstrate systematic methodology's superiority over advanced tooling alone.
Corporate obsession with AI tools misses fundamental lesson: execution discipline and clear requirements matter more than technological sophistication.
Focus on process, not just tools. #Engineering #SystemsThinking
Procurement isn’t back-office anymore—it’s a strategy lever.
From supplier diversity to value-aligned partnerships

Screwworm Is a Mirror
It’s not just a fly. It’s a mirror. It reflects how we treat global infrastructure: as optional, until it fails. And failure here means pain—real, preventable pain.

When I read, I either use labels or take notes.
In this book (The Dao of Complexity), I started with labels, switched to notes as they help me learn and remember and reread and ….
Don’t want to sound arrogant, but I think my notes are cool.
By the way, the book is too!!!
Just published a preprint I've been working on:
Gödelian Constraint on Epistemic Freedom (GCEF)
A topological limit on embedded cognition — how agents inside systems can’t fully model them, and why that constraint refracts through science, AI, and consciousness.
