Designing Digital Services
what's the precise term that describes the phenomenon where
* a bureaucratic process doesn't work for most users
* but each individual user thinks the problem is rare and just bad luck they were affected by it
* and the organisation encourages the lie that the process mostly works
I made an interactive version of Lou Downe's Good Services Scale.

A #chatbot can't answer my question, so it offers to connect me to a person.
Bot: "Do you want to speak to a staff member?"
Yes/No.
Me: "Yes."
Bot: "Sorry, the office is closed. Please try again on Monday after 9am."
Ask another question/Quit.
Other questions I have: Why didn't your designers have you check staff availability before offering to connect me, or have you offer to queue my message for someone to answer on Monday morning?
My name is Matilda, I am a member of Greenheart Co-op. Interested in #interactiondesign, #systemsdesign and #servicedesign. Specifically in the spirit of e.g #VictorPapanek, #DonellaMeadows. The train conductor just announced (consciously or unconsciously): "welcome dear traveller on this train", instead of the more usual "travellers" (plural) and I unexpectedly felt personally addressed. (Made me smile.)
I’m currently a #servicedesigner and have been battling with our development colleagues for years. We demo’d some user research the other day, showing clips of our customers unable to complete a poorly designed form. The response was - sadly we can’t change those elements without a huge redesign so it’s not worth it. One such element was the text used in an error message.
#servicedesign
Here's the latest episode of my podcast, with as many PC2.0 features enabled as possible. My audio here was not great as I didn't set up my levels properly, but I'm really proud of the content.
Let me know what you think!

#Introduction time!
I'm a 34 yr old she/they, living with my SO of 8 years and our 13 year old #NorwegianForestcat.
Our home is filled with #plants, of which some are successful and some are an experiment. I'm a #gamer, a #music enthusiast, a #hockey fan, #neurodivergent, a #yarn #crafter, #LGBTQIA+, a #baker, learning #foraging, and with a re-found love for #reading.

A re #introduction for new mastodon peeps. Hello! I’m a designer and final year PhD candidate in design for sustainable transitions at UTS in Sydney. My research is exploring how to embrace a more collective and equitable approach to knowledge generation and decision-making around transitions particularly in the phasing out of fossil fuels. Before the PhD I was a principle designer at Meld Studios doing strategic and service design. #PhD #SustainabilityTransitions #Design #ServiceDesign
Since I moved from mastodon.social to pkm.social I thought I should do an #introduction:

This 1st 'toot', took my brain to Toots and the Maytals, started listening to them, then more reggae music, and ended up here: https://youtu.be/HNBCVM4KbUM which seems quite fitting
An overdue #introduction (thanks for the prompt when I switched instances @aussocialadmin )
My name is Scott and I live in Sydney (on Wangal Country in the Inner West). My pronouns are he / him.
I was born and raised in Canada (Alberta, even), and have lived in some great places around the world (Montreal, NYC, Vermont, rural Kenya). Being a Canadian man of a certain age, yes, I play hockey. Even in Australia.
I've been very (not extremely) online since the 90s. First it was rec.music.phish, then fark.com, then the Big Tech Socials.
I strive to behave with compassion and to be more kind than nice. But I also shitpost from time to time because internet.
I'm interested in lots of things and barely maintain a blurred boundary between personal and professional. See hashtags below or on my profile for a more specific list, but I think it's generally encompassed by the concept of #interbeing which I understand as being coined by Thich Nhat Hanh and drawn from Vietnamese and older Buddhist concepts.

Hi: I'm Anne, they/them. Professionally, I identify what's wrong and figure out how to fix it, mostly in #government. That often involves #design, #UX, #servicedesign, #contentstrategy, #changemanagement, #organizationaldesign, #strategy, #codesign, #governance, how to build and support #healthyteams, and #vision in interest of #mission. The core of my work is listening. I also think a lot about how to improve how we do our work, #equity, #safety, #ethics, and more.
Partying like it's 2006 on Twitter, here's my #introduction post:
Terminally online ex-pat #Tasmanian with a head removal scar to prove it. I've lived and travelled in a bunch of places.
I live with my partner and BIL (a person with disabilities)in the bush in Djiringanj Yuin country and run a B&B in the mountains of the Bega Valley (https://rocklily.com.au/) in a place called Brogo (NSW, Australia). We're 25km from the nearest town (Bega) living on 100 acres of primarily remnant endangered forest (https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/threatenedspeciesapp/profile.aspx?id=10110).
I also work on a large #dairy #farm (1800 acres/728ha) where we run between 800 and 1000 cattle supplying to the Bega Group.
I've spent the past 20 years as a service designer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_design) with expertise in #government and the #publicsector, #userexperience, #servicedesign, #orgdesign, #opengovernment, communications, #innovation, designful #leadership, and organisational #culture. I'm mostly retired (but hire me, I'm good) from client work.
