Every year I participate in #ArtAdventCalendar. It’s a great way to fill your feeds with art at the end of the year. All are welcome & it’s definitely not just for people who celebrate Christmas. Join in! It can be a bit of an antidote to all the commercialism of the season cause it’s just about sharing art. I tend to focus on recent art. I made so many prints this year, I can share a piece from 2024 🧵

Tiny orange seastar is disrupting the path to ‘progress’.
Move seastar out of the way to “minimise disruption” to traffic?

The live-bearing sea star has been vanishing from Tasmania's waters for some time. Now the marine creature has to be moved out of the way to fix traffic woes on a marine causeway.
Plan is to relocate the species on the brink of extinction to aquariums during road construction. >>

Raising Hungry #SeaStar Babies Is No Cinch baynature.org/article/raising-

"Not so long ago, you could count on #pycnopodia to devour #PurpleUrchins and keep them from eating too much #kelp. A decade ago, the mysterious wasting disease began plaguing #SeaStars, right around the time that a #MarineHeatWave struck... In the absence of their primary predator, urchin populations exploded. Since then they have mown across the sea floor unhindered, leaving urchin barrens where #KelpForests once flourished."

I made this print for the #InsertAnInvert2024 prompt intertidal in mind. My Lino block print of two Pisaster ochraceus, generally known as the purple sea star, ochre sea star, or ochre starfish, on a bed of kelp, is hand-printed on delicate white Japanese paper with bark inclusions. A common sea star, or starfish of the Pacific, it is a keystone species considered an indicator of health in the intertidal zone.🧵

The next prompt for #printerSolstice is Triadic Colours, or 3 equidistant colours on the colour wheel. I went with secondary colours: orange, purple & green. My Lino block print of 2 Pisaster ochraceus, generally known as the purple sea star, ochre sea star, or ochre starfish, on a bed of kelp, is hand-printed on delicate white Japanese paper with bark inclusions. 🧵1/n
