"Girls girls girls" - Sailor

We join TOTP during the music hall revival, and Sailor were still banging out the hits.

Quite literally: their defining sound is the banging piano - specifically a double-backed nickelodeon, with two people playing at once.

The band continued to play until 2014, bringing such covers as "Cotton eye Joe" into their show. Members Pete Lincoln and Oliver Marsh still perform from time to time.

Time for an #Introduction post. I’m a #liveaboard #sailor (www.svloka.com) and full time #nomad who is also a #creative #artist. I play #guitar, #crochet, paint (#watercolor & #acrylic), and draw #penandink. I love #yoga and use #meditation to manage my #anxiety. Got #sober in 2020.

I am a recovering #softwareengineer (#programmer) and #ITmanager. I focused a lot on #leadership & effective #communication, and I still enjoy #mentoring people on those topics. I still tinker with tech on occasion.

Inked up my bent /fude nib Sailor Profit pen with the waterproof Octopus Write & Draw black elephant ink, with some quick watercolours over top. Ink is flowing nicely, and if my other pens are any indication not expecting it to slow down soon, so looks promising to me!

I had tried some other waterproof inks before, but they were either cloggy in this one (Carbon Black) or not terribly waterproof when brushed over during watercolours (Noodlers, Sailor)

Conditions on Fishing Vessels can be rather gross. Fish debris falls in the bilge, the accumulation of sloshing grey water, with everything imaginable in it.
It stinks really bad. That rotten fish small and grey water bounced up to splash the coupling, I'd wait for a roll, to reach the bolts on the other side, and the smell made me ill, bouncing caused my eyes to blur out of focus, and I knew it was going to happen.

Before I was transported over, knowing we could be there several hours, I filled my pocket with Chocolate Milk boxes.

Here's what I found: The shaft, directly coupled to the transmission, and generator for electrical power, had seized.
We were already cabled to them, towing slightly. I reckoned I had about 2 hrs work to uncouple, so the generator could be run, & freewheel the shaft reducing drag & increasing towing speed

We came to a stop, sent a zodiac over to assess and find out why they weren't communicating. In the video, they mention THE BUFFER, the senior Bosn who went to tie a towing hawser to them, and bring them under tow. A Navy ship goes too fast to tow a tiny Fishing vessel, so we were delayed greatly .

Captain called up senior specialists. Sent them to the flailing boat by Zodiac, over moderate seas, to assess & report back.

In the aforementioned video, while leaving the Grand Banks, heading to St John's Newfoundland, the Navy ship, HMCS Ottawa stumbled upon a floundering Fishing Boat.

They might have been lost forever, had we not discovered them by accident.
They had lost power. Once the shaft stopped turning, electricity was lost too , and radio power for distress calls.

New balance stretching record attained;
LEFT leg 3 mins 15 secs 🏆,
RIGHT leg came in 2nd place 😆 just over 2 min.
I'll work on my right balance more. I still can't believe that I just fall over, if my eyes close. 😖

Then, something happened? I believe my inner ear was damaged, perhaps eardrum pressure (below surface or flying, with a cold), I don't know.I moonlighted w/out safety restraint, on HighRise buildings, building balcony rails, no problem. Then I got vertigo & I got trapped alone on the funnel top. #Dizzy #Heights #Vertigo #Sailor

Today in Labor History November 21, 1910: Sailors on board Brazil's warships mutinied in what is now known as the Revolta da Chibata (Revolt of the Lash). The sailors, who were mostly Afro-Brazilian, were protesting the use of whips by white naval officers when punishing them. Nearly half of the 4,000 sailors on these ships participated in the mutiny. Several officers who attempted to resist were killed. The rebels sent a telegraph to the president, reading "We do not want the return of the chibata [lash]. They threatened to destroy the city if the President of the republic and the Minister of the Navy didn’t cede to their demands. And they fired on army forts around Guanabara Bay, and at the naval arsenal and bases on Ilha das Cobras and Villegagnon Island, as well as the presidential palace. Ultimately, the Brazilian government granted an amnesty for the mutineers and the conflict ended without further violence. However, as soon as the mutineers came ashore, the government disarmed the ships, to prevent any further mutinies, and most of the men were discharged from the navy.

It is #FollowFriday!

Today I spliced some eyes, and replaced some wire (and, of course, gave blood to the gods of #sailing in the process,) so this week's theme is #sailor and #BoatsThatToot:
