A neat effect I just noticed in my "frontend framework": the render logic looks for a method called "render" to, well, render the component. Making the method private changes its _actual_ name from "render" to "#render" (because that's how JS rolls), which means that the render logic just does nothing (because there's no method named "render") instead of crashing while trying to access a private method. Just because private identifiers are different from regular identifiers

Why is it done this way with QR codes, you ask? Because this gallery page is shown on a touch screen on events. So people can scan the QR code and get the image. So at this time unfortunately you cannot use this on a mobile phone.

I though of someting new: rendering images and writing a short story for them. Here's the first one.

Kaytiri

The Kaytiri mining stations may look if someone stumbled in a hardware store, but they are highly efficient in what they do: take over a planet and strip it of all Kerterium deposits, defending itself in the process, leaving the world devastated. About every ten years one of their mining fleets appeared over an unsuspecting world. No communication efforts were ever answered and no one ever saw a Kaytiri face to face. Until the Star Union had enough: they created a fast response team that should intervene at the first sight of a Kaytiri attack.
Equipped with the latest scanner technology the Star Union had developed, they were able defend against the attack and to follow the strange aliens to their home system.
But instead of a hostile race they found a civilization on the brink of extinction. The Kaytiri needed the Kerterium to survive for biological reasons and all their natural sources in their system had been depleted. In addition they had a rare psychology, not being able to interact or communicate with other beings, that inability was literally written into their genes. They were helpless people fighting for their very lives and virtually unable to ask for help. So they came and took.
Instead of obliterating the Kaytiri, Union scientists were ordered to find a solution and the aliens were provided with the very much needed Kerterium until something could be done. Diplomats, Xenopsychologists and scientists were able to find solutions for the genetic psychological problems and the dependency on Kerterium - and today the Kaytiri are honored members of the Star Union.

Kaytiri

Die Bergbaustationen der Kaytiri sehen zwar aus, als wäre jemand in einen Eisenwarenladen gestolpert, aber sie sind hocheffizient in dem, was sie tun: einen Planeten übernehmen und ihn von allen Kerteriumvorkommen befreien, sich dabei verteidigen und die Welt verwüstet zurücklassen. Etwa alle zehn Jahre tauchte eine ihrer Minenflotten über einer ahnungslosen Welt auf. Auf ihre Kommunikationsbemühungen wurde nie geantwortet, und niemand hat jemals einen Kaytiri von Angesicht zu Angesicht gesehen. Bis die Sternenunion genug hatte: Sie schuf ein schnelles Reaktionsteam, das beim ersten Anzeichen eines Kaytiri-Angriffs eingreifen sollte.
Ausgestattet mit der neuesten Scannertechnologie, die die Star Union entwickelt hatte, konnten sie den Angriff abwehren und den seltsamen Außerirdischen in ihr Heimatsystem folgen.
Doch statt einer feindlichen Spezies trafen sie auf eine Zivilisation, die am Rande des Aussterbens stand. Die Kaytiri benötigten das Kerterium aus biologischen Gründen zum Überleben, und alle natürlichen Quellen in ihrem System waren erschöpft. Außerdem verfügten sie über eine absonderliche psychologische Eigenschaft: Sie waren nicht in der Lage, mit anderen Wesen zu interagieren oder zu kommunizieren - diese Unfähigkeit war ihnen buchstäblich in die Gene geschrieben. Sie waren hilflose Wesen, die um ihr eigenes Leben kämpften und praktisch nicht in der Lage waren, um Hilfe zu bitten. Also kamen sie und nahmen.
Anstatt die Kaytiri auszulöschen, wurden die Wissenschaftler der Union beauftragt, eine Lösung zu finden, und die Außerirdischen wurden mit dem dringend benötigten Kerterium versorgt, bis etwas unternommen werden konnte. Diplomaten, Xenopsychologen und Wissenschaftler waren in der Lage, Lösungen für die genetisch-psychologischen Probleme und die Abhängigkeit von Kerterium zu finden - und heute sind die Kaytiri geachtete Mitglieder der Sternenunion.
