I think CBT is useful and effective. At least for it's intended purpose of defeating irrational thought patterns.
Imo, it's bad rep comes from way too many therapists trying to use it to defeat upsetting thoughts without first determining their rationality. It's a tool, if you need something to drive nails, a screwdriver won't work for most people. Using CBT processes to defeat upsetting but rational thoughts is gaslighting and it's psychologically abusive. Reality matters.
