Hey guitar players, so the way I have been recording is either direct out from my pedal board or line out / fx send from amp to audio interface in mono. Then a cabsim or IR plugin in the DAW (pro tools). I really love playing through my pedals and amps, but micing a cab is not possible. It seems to be working for me, but wondering if anyone has other ideas for my setup. Or just to hear other thoughts on it. Let’s hear it!

Turning in my session paperwork tonight upcoming #studio tracking day. I'm picking microphones and assigning channels and building the #ProTools session. We have to show planning docs so they know we know what we're doing (ha lolsob) and won't damage their gear. So I get to diagram out where everyone will be placed and where the mics will plug in and what outboard gear I'll use.

Kinda fun, but overwhelming options. Trying to keep it simple.

Workstation for music

On the left, trying to manage two desktops on one, er, desktop

On the right: the new #StandingDesk for my Mac Mini and #ProTools setup

I have a 10-key w/ mechanical switches on order so I can fully use the shortcuts. No speakers in here, but considering my environment I'm mostly working in headphones anyway here.

(As a bonus, it's on ethernet so I could stream games from my main desktop in the living room.)

I just rsync'd so it may be wonky for a few minutes (just hit refresh), but I have updated my blog with thoughts at the (almost) midpoint of my studio engineering program at #BlackbirdStudio in #Nashville. Also mentioned: wild studio parties, #Inkscape, #ProTools, and general career thoughts.

I finished my class assignments early so I mucked about with #ProTools and the ridiculously huge set of expensive plugins we have at our disposal at the classroom and did a ridiculously self-indulgent mix of "Complicated Signal Path," one of the first musical things I ever made and shared. It was sort of #LoFi because I didn't know how to be not-minimalist and employs #BassGuitar even for the rhythm guitar part because that's all I owned.

This new mix is kinda fun.

I used to keep up with all the major accessible music technology for blind musicians, but now it feels harder to stay updated. The #MusicTech industry still has a long way to go, but there's been a great progress—so much more is accessible now compared to just 10 years ago! #Reaper, #Logic, #ProTools, #Samplitude, #Sibelius, #Musescore, #KompleteKontrol, #Ableton Live, #Juce, #Izotope, #Arturia, #Softtube, #Audient, #Focusrite, #Zoom, #SurgeSynth, #UVI, Sao Mai Braille... What else am I missing?

I’ve finally got time to sit down and write an #introduction.

I’m Scott, a grammy nominated #music engineer/mixer/producer who uses #protools. I live in San Francisco and have worked out of Hyde Street’s Studio C for the past 16 years, but my #synths live at my home studio. I have a part time job at a #videogame studio where I complain about #wwise. I bake lots of #vegan food and my #sourdough starter is named “For Real Dough”.
