Got a reply from #protonMail "We do use LLM to generate some code, however, all code is still thoroughly tested and reviewed for security." Not really comforting given that the big LLMs are so opposed to their basic values! And letting a chatbot scrape your files opens a giant attack surface.

Je sais que le ceo de Proton a eu quelques mots surprenants/malheureux concernant #trump et #maga tout en rétropédalant largement par la suite. Pour le reste, la plate-forme semble tenir la route en termes de sécurité/ confidentialité.
(Je dis ça parce que je suis en train d'évaluer leurs services...)

Has anyone tested out the new #Proton Authenticator app? I have been using #ProtonMail for years now but am not heavily invested in the rest of their ecosystem. Currently I use Authy which is fine but I'm wondering if there's a benefit to switching

I'm going to China again in September (the last time was Feb 2020 and boy, that was a trip, I was masking before it was popular).
I quite like being online. I also am currently in the google ecosystem.
I notice that Protonmail has a good reputation and seems to offer similar services.
Now is your choice, fedizens, to tell me why they're a terrible company and not to be trusted.
I have searched far and wide for a solid #email client. Many a software has graced my PC. My conclusion is there is no great email software. I loved #Geary but it seems outdated and only getting more so. #Mailspring would be a choice but it doesn't like #protonmail. #Thunderbird is probably what I am going back to.
Are most people really out here just using web clients only?

Dites, c'est quoi le fournisseur de #mail qu'il faut utiliser pour se créer une nouvelle adresse en 2025 ? Ce serait pour un usage basique de mail partagé, pas besoin de grand-chose.
J'avais un #Protonmail, mais leurs dernières positions politiques m'inquiètent un peu. J'ai vu l'alternative #Tutanota, mais le fait qu'il n'y ait pas d'IMAP me refroidit un peu, je n'ai pas envie d'installer encore une appli de plus pour consulter mes mails.

Proton hehkutti eilen blogissaan uutta roskageneraattoriaan (AI). Sitä ennen se julkaisi AI-työkalun osaksi sähköposteja.
Proton on ollut hyvä palvelu ja olen käyttänyt sitä mielelläni. Näyttää kuitenkin kovasti siltä, että Protonin keskittyminen on AI-roskan tekemisessä. Tämä tuo minut tutun kysymyksen äärelle: mihin haluan käyttää rahani.
Yksi asia, johon en halua sitä käyttää, on AI-roskan tuottaminen.
Onneksi opin aikaisemmista virheistä. En ole missään vaiheessa käyttänyt Protonin tarjoamaa sähköpostiosoitetta. Proton on kyllä tallennuspaikka sähköposteilleni, mutta olen käyttänyt sähköpostialiaksia omalla domainilla, joten pystyn helposti ohjaamaan sähköpostit uuteen palveluun ja se onnistuu yhtä asetusta muuttamalla.
Maksan jo tällä hetkellä Protonin lisäksi StartMailista, joten kyllähän tässä vääjäämättä tulee mietittyä, että josko sitä vaan lopettaisi Protonin tilaamisen ja siirtäisi aliasohjaukset StartMailiin. StartMail ei tarjoa Protonin tapaan enkryptausta, joten sen siinä menettää.
Kyllä korpeaa, että elämme tällaista aikaa. Jos sähköpostien itse hostaaminen olisi nykyään helppoa ja järkevää, siirtyisin siihen samoin tein.
