While everybody remembers Stacy's Mom if they remember Fountains of Wayne, people sleep on the fact that the first two Fountains of Wayne albums were two of the best #powerpop records of the entire #90s which was not a decade at all light on power pop bangers.

1979 debut release from the short-lived (at least, in original form) UK power pop band The Records, unavailable on streaming (although there is a CD re-release out there).

This LP can be found for short money, and is packed with power pop gems…some of which you've probably heard (Teenarama and *especially* Starry Eyes).

Fun Fact für den nächsten Sektempfang Smalltalk, Paul Collins (The Beat) und Peter Case (The Plimsouls) waren unter anderem Teil von The Nerves, die 1976 „Hanging on the Telephone“ geschrieben und aufgenommen haben. Genau, das Lied, welches jede*r mit Blondie in Verbindung bringt, die es 1978 gecovert haben.

#PowerPop steht heute auf dem Programm. Eines meiner absoluten Lieblingsgenres. Beatles-Style Pop, ordentlich Dampf, unfassbar melodiös, mehrstimmiger Gesang, textmäßig geht’s um unerfüllte Liebe, Verzweiflung, Sehnsucht aber auch Selbstermächtigung, eben so Teenage-Innocence, die man sich in dieser Kackwelt gerne erhalten würde. Alles in ein gute Laune Paket geschnürt. Großartig!
