Joshua A.C. Newman<p>Here’s the patch that’s controlling the servo in the above video, which is the thing that’s so exciting: the <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/ObliquePalette" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ObliquePalette</span></a> can control servos and <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/Eurorack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Eurorack</span></a> with <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/plugdata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plugdata</span></a>.</p><p>(In theory, it can also receive those signals, but I did something wrong…)</p>
Joshua A.C. Newman<p>The <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/ObliquePalette" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ObliquePalette</span></a> analog outputs are working, voltage and servo alike!</p><p>Inputs seem to have an electronic error. Trying to figure it out.</p><p>Servo current draw might be too high through basic USB even with power capacitors. There’s a connector to add a separate power plug, too, but I’m pretty sure the answer is USB-C PD that will additionally give the voltage range to be fully <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/Eurorack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Eurorack</span></a> compatible.</p><p>It’s really exciting to see <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/plugdata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plugdata</span></a> outputting position and voltage to the real world!</p>

Joshua A.C. Newman<p>The <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/ObliquePalette" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ObliquePalette</span></a> v0.5.3 is off to manufacture!</p><p>It'll fit in a <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/Eurorack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Eurorack</span></a> <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/modularsynth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>modularsynth</span></a> case if you like. And it reads and writes voltage control (only 0:5V currently, but ±5V in the final, we're hoping). You’ll be able to plug your <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/synthdiy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>synthdiy</span></a> weird things into its eight inputs, which you will then interpret with a <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/plugdata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plugdata</span></a> patch.</p><p>And your patch will obey your creative wishes, making sound with your computer audio and sending out 8 channels of CV and servos*!</p><p>*We'll see how many we can run!</p>
Mads Kjeldgaard<p>I've said it before, and I'll say it again: <a href="https://sonomu.club/tags/PlugData" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PlugData</span></a> is so damn nice. Really nice UI. Deffo the nicest and easiest way to get into this sort of stuff in 2025. </p><p><a href="https://sonomu.club/tags/puredata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>puredata</span></a> <a href="https://sonomu.club/tags/foss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>foss</span></a> <a href="https://sonomu.club/tags/plugdata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plugdata</span></a> <a href="https://sonomu.club/tags/computermusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computermusic</span></a></p><p><a href="https://plugdata.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">plugdata.org/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Joshua A.C. Newman<p>The <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/ObliquePalette" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ObliquePalette</span></a> looks to be ready for its next prototype iteration! This is version 0.5.3! I’m hoping to have a couple onhand to share with the <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/plugdata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plugdata</span></a> enthusiasts at <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/Superbooth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Superbooth</span></a>!</p><p>Soon I’ll be able to use analog signals of whatever sort — from servos to <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/Arduino" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Arduino</span></a> to, I dunno, light-dependent resistors to <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/Eurorack" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Eurorack</span></a> — to control, and be controlled by, plugdata patches!</p>
Joshua A.C. Newman<p>Just look at the rad shit being built with <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/plugdata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plugdata</span></a> .</p><p>This is a granular <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/synth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>synth</span></a> built by Ewan Bristow. I don’t know how the dude cranks out so much beautiful computer music instruments so fast. </p><p><a href="https://youtu.be/InJeKBF8-zU?si=P5DJvftNaRpdTX6c" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtu.be/InJeKBF8-zU?si=P5DJvf</span><span class="invisible">tNaRpdTX6c</span></a></p>
Joshua A.C. Newman<p>Really solid work happening on the <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/ObliquePalette" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ObliquePalette</span></a> ! Servos can now be controlled from <a href="https://xeno.glyphpress.com/tags/plugdata" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plugdata</span></a> ! 12-bit Analog inputs are now working!</p><p>We took a step back and did a little reorganization of the DACs. Hoping to have them working this week!</p>

But it's not only far more legible, it also runs as a VST plugin in your DAW.</p><p>As much as I love what it does now, I'm most interested in developing it for my general purpose programming and experimentation. I want to program drones and synths and costumes with it at <a href="https://patreon.com/joshua" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">patreon.com/joshua</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>We need more coders!
