A rare blog post from me, this time about 9front. It's a bit incomplete, but that's how it goes.
I've tried to consume mouthfuls of info about #9front in the past few hours and I kind of dig it. There seems to be a rebellious and artistic aspect to it from its users that kind of draws me. I can't see myself using it daily as it seems to lack modern exploit mitigations....which it might not need but my monkey brain feels I need these things in place for peace of mind. I will definitely be playing around with it in a VM until I feel more comfortable. It feels like it could eventually replace something in my workflow. Very very cool OS.
So are hipsters using Plan 9 or derivatives? Can someone please explain the use case beyond this? This is a real question, not being facetious. #plan9 #9front #plan9front
I just spent seven hours trying to repair the 4x4 wheel hub and spindle on my Bronco II, only to find that Rock Auto sent me the wrong wheel seals and bearings. Local shops are out of stock so I won't have them until tomorrow, and of course it will be storming all day.
Since I won't be dealing with greasy, rusty, anachronistic vehicle parts, I decided I'm going to spend the rest of the weekend playing around with a greasy, rusty, anachronistic operating system. That's right, I'm going to install #Plan9 and actually attempt to use it as a real OS and not just a curiosity. Glenda help me.
Die namentliche Nähe zum schlechtesten Film aller Zeiten ist natürlich rein zufällig.
