So, I've started a new quilt. It will be made with hexagons, completely yellow or gold, and I hope, it will look like a honeycomb. I have about 160 hexagons right now, I need about 450. #Patchwork

7 stacks of fabric hexagons, each tacked to a hexagon of paper, for piecing together. The hexagons are made of a selection of fabrics, all with a yellow or golden colour. Some are plain, some have patterns, including some with bees on and some with fabric that has a honeycomb type pattern.

at dressdeveloper.com one can input measurements to generate all sorts of free sewing patterns from dresses to jumpsuits and more. the patterns pop up as neat pdf files ready to be printed. i used this incredible platform to create a detachable hood for a quilted vest i’d made.

Yesterday I was unwrinkling my brain with embroidery, and redid this flower at least three times before I was happy with it, and then something clicked and it felt like I unlocked another level on the embroidery skill tree... Anyway, it's not done yet, but I think it might turn out pretty nice!

Top down photo of an old fashioned shape flower embroidered on a patchwork block. It's done in vibrant mixed hues, and vaguely has the look of traditional embroidery and motifs on folk dress and 18th century inspired nature prints, but due to the colours and background looks pretty modern also. An outline has been backstitched in variegated embroidery floss, in four different colourways, and this has then been partially filled in with chain stitch, satin stitch, straight stitch and split stitch, giving it a bunch of different textures that nonetheless go nicely together. One leaf of two has a bit of satin stitch fill in it, in a vibrant teal pine green, matching the little patch of fabric right below it. It's not a grand piece of art, but it looks fairly intentional and dynamic all in all! Sini's fingertips in frame, she has shortened her nails.

Today I have done very little and yesterday I also did very little, but yesterday I did embroider this block.

Top down photo of an embroidered quilt block, comprised of chaotically different fabric scraps, of almost all possible colours but earth and plant tones mostly. There's different stitches making up little vines, plants and flowers trailing along seams, less and more complex. There's a couple of subtly variegated threads and a couple of brighter single tone ones, most noticeably a deep lapis lazuli blue, almost electric blue on its backdrop of green toned botanical prints. It's pretty eclectic all in all, but somehow pulls together in its chaos. Sini's pale hand in frame, with her signature silver rings.

It's like a pretty abstracted take on a blueberry plant, with brown and purple variegated thread in feather stitch for the stem and twigs, a very vibrant light spring green for the leaves in lazy daisy stitch, and the very very vibrant blue little berries in French knots. It's still in progress, with sewing needle and its threaded blue embroidery floss, just exceptionally blue and standing out against the other more muted tones. It's a very pretty colour. The fabrics are green with red roses and ripe golden pears on them, flanked by bright pink. It sounds wilder than it looks! Sini's fingertips in frame, with slightly overlong oval natural nails.

Look. It may be that this embroidery thing has gotten slightly out of hand.

Top down photo of a sewing supplies tin just absolutely chock full of little bundles of embroidery thread in pretty much every colour of the rainbow, haphazardly arranged by hues and values. There's thread bundles on the lid, and the box itself has at least two layers of them. The colours all look delicious together and are a source of serotonin for fans of colours and thread and multiple instances of the same thing, hitting that gatherer brain real good.

Small spools of little lengths of the same threads arranged on a desk. The small bits are easier to split, for sewing with only a couple of strands, and it's nicer to work with just these little bits on the desk versus safeguarding the whole box from cat interference and such. There's only the range of colours in current use, which is to say some 38 individual colours.

A little patchwork block that is getting a bundle of flowers embroidered on it. There's three little calendula looking pale lavender colour flowers, and dark tiny green leaves are currently being applied onto some of the stalks already sewn. There's three stalks without anything on them, currently. The scraps of fabrics used for the patch are yellow, brown, orange, beige, green, pink, red and black and white. A tiny little bit of gray blue is also present, so very nearly the entire rainbow. Sini's pale hands in frame, for colour and size reference. The block is about 16cm times 16cm.

A nice and serene little photo of a ginger tabby cat napping on a desk, one of his orange paws gently placed on top of a patchwork quilt block, currently being sewn. He is untroubled and unconcerned, and just for you I'll say that I also gently picked up his paw and placed it back down on the block multiple times as I rotated it to work on it, and this did not bother him either. In the background small spools of split up embroidery floss, ready to be used, in a slightly cat-arranged jumble. Multiple sewing tins, also.

The patchwork block in question, sans cat and more along. There's rather appropriately a scrap of cat print fabric right in the middle, with little cartoon cats napping, lounging, playing with a ball of yarn. Borrowing from its colours of yellow, brown, peach, pink and blue, there's stalks of feather stitch flowers with tiny little orange and pink blossoms. With the pink and brown tones of the other patches, it looks a little bit like you're in the garden and looking through the window of an old brick building, with a legion of cats inside having a good time. Sini's pale hands in the frame, with shiny silver rings.

I have no idea how many of these I've done now, but these are the ones from today. I've been resting, listening to a podcast, embroidering and entertaining the cats.

An embroidered patchwork block with pretty simple lines going across seams and such. There's predominantly brown and beige in the scraps, and brown, gray and blue tones in the embroidery. There's two medallion like daisies with beads in the middle of them, on lines of chain stitch. The rest are feather stitch, and a big feather-like chain stitch motif almost in the middle of the whole block. Sini's hand resting on the edge of the desk, spools of thread and small thread snips in frame.

Two other blocks side by side, one on the left with very chaotic and perhaps overfull scene of two different types of flower, complete with stalks, blooms and leaves... And on the right more of the small patches overlaid with simplified flowers, and one big dandelion done with yellow, beige and oranges. There's so much going on it's perhaps excessive, but also it all blends together when you just glance across it.

It's wildly colourful, but the flowers are so tiny and tidy and small, that it's quite pleasant close up. Some of the threads used are variegated, and the smooth flow of one colour to the next may very well tickle the brain.

I've made a piece of patchwork material for the front of the hot water bottle cover. I will use plain material on the back. This piece is bigger than I need, I'll cut it to the right size. #Patchwork

A piece of fabric made from a patchwork of small hexagons of many different fabrics. The colours merge from red at one end to mauve at the other, via the colours of the rainbow.

I do absolutely have to stop for the day, though. I've been doing other things today as well, but not a lot of them!

Top down photo of a patchwork block with embroidery. This one is in predominantly reds, oranges, yellows and touches of pink, black and white, with some brown and blue. There's tiny pieces sewn together at diagonals, mostly of floral prints. There's a tiny sliver of a cat print, and the embroidery along a seam has been shaped such that a little cat peeks over it like a space in a fence. There's two bigger flowers going across multiple patches.

There's a lot of pinks, oranges, reds and browns in this framing, with black and white under the yellow flower. It's pretty chaotic, but there's some pleasant colour combinations going on. Sini has conquered the French knot, as is apparent from a tiny little dandelion-like flower.

More. This one's not done yet, but I enjoy the technicolour fern leaf and will get distracted later.

A patchwork block on a desk, made up of small pieces and strips of fabric, with embroidery over some of the seams and bigger motifs on top of multiple pieces patched together. There's some fairly sedate flowers and a big old leaf done in chain stitch, in a sort of whorl of a fern configuration. It's done in two variegated threads, going between hues of red, pink, orange, yellow and white. It looks pretty chaotic, but is also tidily done. There's touches of all these same colours on the patches the block is made up of. Sini's hand is on the block edge, for colour comparison, and the tip of the tail of a ginger tabby cat.

I like flowers.

There's even a bit of magenta and turquoise! The flowers are mostly feather stitch with little blossoms on top, rather more suggested than finely detailed, as they are very very small. It's a riot of colour.

They're on top of criss crossing tiny little patches of scraps sewn together, and sort of harmonise and contrast with the colours, here mostly blue, beige, pink and browns. A tiny scrap of fabric has just the ears and eyes of a blue cat, peeking out. Sini's fingertips just in frame, showing the tiny scale of everything.

They're pretty chaotic and erratic, and there's a larger embroidered flower with a little bit of beads on the left one, and the right is a more coherent whole with the flower stalks all radiating from a point and despite the colours being different for each one, are all of similar enough style to look put together. The fabrics are all very colourful, if not even loud. Small thread snips in oil slick colours on the blocks.

Close up photo of a patchwork block of sewn together little scraps in a myriad of sort of complimentary colours, with seams sewn over with either zigzag or hand embroidery, with a number of different colour threads. It looks haphazard and unplanned in a cosy way, with something kind of pulling it together all the same. A little flower has just been embroidered on top because it felt like a space for a flower.

Same block as before in the background, with another on top. Mostly pinks and blues and greens in the previous one, this one is browns and pinks and oranges. It looks nice. Sini's hand with her usual rings on top, for scale. The finished block is about 16cm by 16cm.

Another scrap block, this time with even smaller pieces and wilder colour combinations. There's floral and botanical motifs on the fabrics, but also one with tiny little cats. There's a bunch of embroidery on this one, too, and this time it's not even any kind of seam. A half finished big pink flower partially in frame.

Il y a pile un an, juste avant de partir pour quatre mois de résidence à la Sarrazine, j'ai fait un grand tri dans mon armoire. J'avais sans doute pas fait ça depuis le dernier déménagement, il y a une dizaine d'années. Tout s'était bien accumulé.

Et puis... J'ai été prise d'un coup de folie. J'ai décidé de dessiner chaque pièce et de balancer plein d'infos dans un gros tableur: année d'acquisition, prix approximatif, origine (neuf, occasion, don...), état, fréquence d'utilisation... Et la destination (garder, donner, jeter ou... purgatoire = un an dans le fond de l'armoire).

J'ai essayé d'en tirer quelques statistiques que j'ai ensuite mises en graphiques. Pour moi, pour le fun, par curiosité... Mais pourquoi ne pas les partager dans mon expo "Patchwork In Progress", à la Fondation FARB?

Eh bin contre toute attente, le tirage de mon "inventaire vestimentaire" est l'une des premières œuvres vendues. Pas la fresque de vêtements, mais les statistiques.

Quelqu'un a fait l'acquisition de mes camemberts.

Voilà. :D

I've started a new patchwork - it will be a hot water bottle cover for my Mum. #Patchwork

Two strips of patchwork. Each strip is made from 12 little hexagons, and the fabric colour grades from red at the bottom to mauve at the top, in rainbow order. Beside the two strips are 6 more bundles of hexagons, held together with clothes pegs.

Patchwork skirt is done!

I have no idea how many squares I cut and sewed for this, but each square was 11x11cm, the waist is about 1,6m and the hem about 4m.

I tried to use similar muted colours both from my own stash and the scrap bins at work. There's one green patch at the back that doesn't match and I hate that! It was originally at the front and I ended up undoing that entirely to move it to the back.

Last picture is there to show you that it has POCKETS!

Ps. Sorry about the lack of alt text, I have a migraine coming and really need to go lie down, I'll work on that when I feel better.
