Today I'm sharing the first part of my book #TheHungarianSoprano. This is a CC-licensed Fediverse edition. Hopefully, the other six will follow.

This is also the first edition in English. Apologies for translation mistakes in advance.

Do you guys use @bookwyrm or Internet Archive's Open Library?

I'm migrating from Goodreads, that's how I found out about bookwyrm and open library, but the lack of consistency regarding the authors and books in boomwyrm's database are quite annoying, making me consider actually moving to open library. But the fact that bookwyrm is federated is quite attractive to me.

@bookstodon
TIL that there is an android app for #Bookwyrm (on #Fdroid).

I've had an account on bookrastinating.com for a couple of years, but after signing up and importing my books from #TheStoryGraph it hasn't seen much use.
I intended to give it some love a few months ago, but then #InternetArchive and #OpenLibrary got hit with that attack.
But I think that's been resolved now, and the android app will make things a little easier too, so I don't really have any excuses anymore do I?

#InternetArchive and #WaybackMachine and #OpenLibrary need money.

They are not only victim of recent cyberattacks, they also host a very important service to the whole world that actually should be publicly funded anyhow.

You can not only pay via #PayPal (and more) help.archive.org/help/how-do-i but also use a simple wire transfer help.archive.org/help/how-do-i also including Euro/SEPA/IBAN. 👍

I'm wiring a few bucks each month because I think that they really should be funded well. 👋

The Fediverse's social reading platform BookWyrm lets you import your account data from Goodreads, LibraryThing, StoryGraph, OpenLibrary or Calibre. There are step by step instructions for how to do this here:

If you're wondering what the heck BookWyrm is, it's a Fediverse alternative to Amazon's Goodreads. There's an intro article here:

"Our position is straightforward; we just want to let our library patrons borrow and read the books we own, like any other library," Freeland wrote, while arguing that the "potential repercussions of this lawsuit extend far beyond the Internet Archive" and publishers should just "let readers read."

"This is a fight for the preservation of all libraries and the fundamental right to access information, a cornerstone of any democratic society," Freeland wrote. "We believe in the right of authors to benefit from their work; and we believe that libraries must be permitted to fulfill their mission of providing access to knowledge, regardless of whether it takes physical or digital form. Doing so upholds the principle that knowledge should be equally and equitably accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live or where they learn."

They also argued that the takedowns dealt "a serious blow to lower-income families, people with disabilities, rural communities, and LGBTQ+ people, among many others," who may not have access to a local library or feel "safe accessing the information they need in public."

How do audiobooks work with BookWyrm? I listened to quite a few this year using Libby, which I highly recommend for borrowing audiobooks from a library, however I can't find the audiobook edition listed either on #BookWyrm or #OpenLibrary - is it just a case of adding the edition or is this discouraged for audiobooks?
