A number of software tools are available for construction and simulation of models: #NEURON, #NetPyNE, #Brian, #PyNN, #NEST, #MOOSE, #EDEN etc. These have their own features, styles, programming interfaces (APIs). This is great but it also means that researchers need to learn each of these individually to use them. It also means that tools and models developed for one don’t necessarily work for others and need to be manually converted. This is often a non-trivial task and limits model reuse. 3/x

The first wiring diagram of every neuron in an adult brain and the 50 million connections between them has been produced for a fruit fly.
The researchers say the whole fly brain map is a key first step to completing larger brains. Since the fruit fly is a common tool in research, its brain map can be used to advance our understanding of how neural circuits work. #flies #science #insects #brains #Neurons

We discovered that #marijuana (THC specifically) reduces #GABA #neuron activity. This helps explain some of the rewarding and calming effects of THC because the depression of GABA #neurons means increased dopamine release, which generally makes us feel pretty good.
Don't smoke too young though, we also found #THC is MUCH more influential in adolescents, and sometimes struggles to reverse!
