The white building on the corner of Elandsgracht and Hazenstraat in Amsterdam is number 78. Built around 1️⃣7️⃣8️⃣0️⃣, it features a traditional gable. This makes it a typical example of old Amsterdam architecture. 🏛️

Together with number 76, the building is a national monument because of its historical value. It’s located in the Jordaan, a neighborhood known for its canals and vibrant local life. 🌈🤘😎

“Iconic Mary rocking on the guitar while stepping into a ray of sun” (a bit long for a real title 😅).

The sharp lines and strong contrast suggest stencils were used for quick application. The bold and readable style seems typical for art meant to stand out in public spaces. 🎸

The image blends religious elements 👑😇✝️ with rock culture. 🤘🎸😎That contrast gives it a rebellious tone. It likely questions who we see as icons or saints. Street art like this often makes bold cultural or social statements. 😎

In the backyard of the “Amsterdam Museum” (formerly known as “Hermitage”) you can find some ‘metal beasts’, made by artist “Junk-Art”. 🐀 ⚙️⛓️

The sculptures are handmade, sustainable, and the material they use is steel. It’s including sources such as bolts, gears, all sorts of motor parts, horseshoes and metal scraps. ♻️

The houseboat “Rumah Saya” is a motor tjalk located at the intersection of Keizersgracht and Amstel. This historic vessel, built in 1893, measures approximately 16.7 meters in length and 3.7 meters in width. ⛵

In Indonesian, rumah saya literally means “my house” (rumah = house, saya = I/my). In Malay, it has the same meaning. 🇮🇩🇲🇾🏠

The houseboat is situated in a prime location, close to the “National Opera”, “Koninklijk Theater Carré”, “Museum De Hermitage”, and the “Magere Brug”. 📸

The white building on the left is the facade of the third oldest bar in town. It first opened in 1️⃣6️⃣2️⃣6️⃣ and it’s still there. For over 15 years, a sign behind the windows read: “Not for sale or rent.”💰🤷🏻‍♂️

And yet, dozens, maybe even hundreds of people dropped a note in the mailbox, hoping to take over the legendary Amsterdam café Brandon. In vain…🧾😥

The old proprietors, the Brandon family, lived above the establishment, and as long as they were alive, it would remain closed. 🔒

The café is located at Keizersgracht (corner of Leliegracht), on the edge of the Jordaan. 🍺 🍷

The sculpture at Metrostation Weesperplein honors the old “Weesperpoortstation” (1843–1939), the former railway station from which to depart to Utrecht and Arnhem. Carved in sandstone, this artwork was erected in 1941.

Created by architect Piet Kramer in the ‘Amsterdamse School’ style, it displays three layered historical locomotives representing the railways’ evolution. 🚂🚃🚄

The first steam train between Amsterdam and Haarlem (sept. 20, 1839) drove at the speed of 30 km/h and was pulled by a locomotive called “De Arend”. In 1908, the country’s first electric train took off between Rotterdam Hofplein and Scheveningen Kurhaus. It was powered by a 10,000-volt AC system from a dedicated power plant. 🔋⚡

The first diesel train followed in 1934, running from Amsterdam to Arnhem. 🚂💪

The iconic houses at the beginning of Damrak in Amsterdam, often called “Dansende Huizen” (Dancing Houses) are historic canal buildings that are called like this due to their slightly tilted appearance.

Built during the Dutch Golden Age
👑⚱️🔱💰, they served as merchant homes and warehouses, designed to maximize space with their narrow yet deep structures.

Their distinctive gabled facades were both decorative and practical and often featuring pulleys for hoisting goods. 🪝📦📦

Standing partially in water, these houses in the ’Venice of the North” require careful maintenance to prevent further tilting 👩‍🔧👨🏻‍🔧🏛️.
