On Friday, I watched the #Disney film #Pocahontas – it surprised me with its #beautiful #messages! 😍

One of the them was that we need more #love ❤️ and less war and conflict ⚔️. Love yourself 😊, love others (at least care about others) 🫂 and love our wonderful #planet (at least take care of it) 🌎.

Another message: we must respect and fulfil the rights of #indigenouspeoples ✊, switch to clear-cutting-free #forestry 🏞, switch to a #circulareconomy ♻️ and provide people with good working conditions.

Any #messages you receive from #random accounts #asking for your #login information is 100%, without a doubt, unequivocally, a #SCAM to try to gain access to your account so scammers can #hijack your account to send out #SPAM to your followers.

A tip of sorts for iPhone users. I click "share" button on photos a lot and the phone pops up a handy little list of people I typically inflict, er, share things with over Messages. A couple of days ago ALL of the people disappeared. I don't remember changing anything. Restarting and swearing didn't help.
Turns out some time in the last week I'd run across this setting and thought, "why the hell is that on??" (well, I still think that) and turning it off meant it wouldn't “remember” who I send messages to. Turned it back on and after sending things people started showing back up in the list.

Or don't buy a new Android phone.
And don't use an app owned by Meta.

My android still has Google Assistant (with all the stuffs turned off). I can "switch from Google Assistant to Gemini" if I want to but it's not done by default. I assume the new phones come with Gemini baked in.

I suppose the other option is to use Signal for messaging & calls.

I learned something today: Google's Gemini "AI" on phones accesses your data from "Phones, Messages, WhatsApp" and other stuff whether you have Gemini turned on or not. It just keeps the data longer if you turn it on. Oh, and lets it be reviewed by humans (!) for Google's advantage in training "AI" etc.

But this only came to my attention because of an upcoming change: it's going to start keeping your data long-term even if you turn it "off": "#Gemini will soon be able to help you use Phone, #Messages, #WhatsApp, and Utilities on your phone, whether your Gemini Apps Activity is on or off."

This is, of course, a #privacy and #security #nightmare.

If this is baked into Android, and therefore not removable, I'd have to say I'd recommend against using Android at all starting July 7th.

Here's why: Ofcom are currently running a consultation on their framework for implementing the 'Spy Clause' section 121 of the Online Safety Act. This clause gives Ofcom the power to issue a technical notice to a provider, and require them to use a specific technology to scan everyone's messages for terrorist material or child sexual exploitation materials (CSEM). This consultation closes at 5pm on Monday 10th March. The problem is there is no safe scanning technology that exists.
