Hippo 🍉<p>I nowadays get the same uncomfortable feeling when engaging with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/GitHub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GitHub</span></a> that I used to get when dealing with <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Google</span></a>. Johannes Kastl<p>Dear Mercurial users,</p><p>I have been digging into version control systems lately, to broaden my knowledge. As many people seem to be especially fond of Mercurial, may I ask what your main selling points for it are?</p><p>Compared to CVS or Subversion it has many of the advantages that Git has, too. Decentralized, etc. yadda yadda.</p><p>But what are your favorite features in comparison to Git? What makes it special in your opinion?</p><p>Thank you!</p><p><a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/mercurial" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mercurial</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/mercurialscm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mercurialscm</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/vcs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vcs</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/versioncontrol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>versioncontrol</span></a> <a href="https://digitalcourage.social/tags/git" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>git</span></a></p>

Julian Day<p>When it became clear that Bitbucket had jumped the shark - dropped <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/Mercurial" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mercurial</span></a> support, went <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/git" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>git</span></a> only, developed a smarmy, corporate feel - I sighed, switched SotW to git, moved everything to <a href="https://writing.exchange/tags/GitHub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GitHub</span></a>. And now GitHub's front page advertises itself as "the world's leading AI-powered developer platform", and I feel it starting again. I'm tired. Life is short. I want to write code and make things, myself.</p>
