Today I learned that an acre, today defined as 43,560 square feet, was originally a measure of the area a yoke of oxen could plow in one day. Wikipedia says that would be 8 oxen. Anyway, that's why an acre is not square, but was traditionally a rectangle: one chain (66 ft) by one furlong (660 ft). An acre that was square would be ~208.7 ft on each edge

@hildabast I saved your post last year to come back to, and thought of it again today when I read this in the Publi Fluor book. (Alt text contains a transciption of the paragraph from the book pictured.)

The use of Brussels isn't completely surprising, as the book is located in the city, but Lebanon felt a bit random.
