Had this happened overnight it would be a sci-fi horror movie scenario – people seeming numbed, dazed, their #attention captured and #manipulated by the contents of tiny devices controlled by powerful corporations, a billion Manchurian candidates in a wifi-equipped Metropolis. A Night of the Living Dead to You. But it’s happened so incrementally it’s become normal.
While #X *eventually* added labels beneath the video indicating the #content had been #manipulated, multiple versions of the clip remain online. In all, posts featuring the video garnered at least 5M views….
In a political environment awash w/ false claims, including sophisticated #faked videos of prominent figures, the hoax was unusual in that it appeared to draw on open-source research to crudely steal the identity of someone who had a tenuous historical connection to a candidate….
#Trump shared a #manipulated online image of #BillGates in an orange jumpsuit & called for #BarackObama to face a “military tribunal.” He promoted explicit tributes to the #QAnon #ConspiracyTheory. He hawked digital trading cards in an online #infomercial along w/pieces of his debate night suit (“People are calling it the knockout suit”). His campaign feuded publicly w #ArlingtonNationalCemetery.…
And that was just in the span of 24hrs.

The video is obviously #manipulated & easily debunked by viewing the unaltered footage, which shows #Harris speaking smoothly, w/o repeating the same words & phrases as portrayed in the doctored video.
The video, whose origin is unclear, was posted by #Trump himself on Truth Social on Sat, accompanied by a rant in which he calls Harris “DUMB!” & “extremely Low IQ.”
It's also the height of #privilege and #entitlement, that you don't have to care about your #trans compatriots, you don't have to care about the #climate, that you don't have to care about #women and their right to control their own body, etc. You're going to assert your single issue, to the exclusion of all other issues, and even go backwards on that one issue

The company said Friday that it will apply “#MadeWithAI” labels to a range of video, audio & images. Meta’s previous policies against #manipulated #media, which were written in 2020 before the #tech industry’s #AI boom, only applied to video content.
The expansion follows criticism from #Meta’s #Oversight Board, which called the company’s existing policies “incoherent” in Feb after an altered video of President #Biden remained on #Facebook because it didn’t violate Meta’s rules.
