Another LinuxMint "Oh, wow!" moment. Just discovered the default text editor "xed" can switch highlight modes to a wide variety of coding standards, with a simple menu click at the bottom of the editor window. Huh.

No, nie som veľmi fanda #LinuxMint, hlavne kvôli default vzhľadu. Ale nemôžem zlé slovo povedať z hľadiska funkčnosti. Vylovil som starší počítač, a keďže elementary OS vyhadzoval chybu inštalácie a nechcelo sa mi s tým babrať, tak som skúsil Mint. Bez problémov nabehol, od začiatku funguje grafika a nastavenie jasu, čo bol na Fedore aj eOS problém. Wifi neišla, ale systém rovno navrhol, že "Toto zariadenie nefunguje: tu sú na to ovládače." Paráda.

Linux Mint 22.2, which is expected to be released in July or August, is named ‘Zara’, continuing project lead Clem’s codename convention of using female names in (somewhat) alphabetical order. I say ‘somewhat’ since Linux Mint 22.1 release was ‘Xia‘, yet Linux Mint 22.2 is ‘Zara‘ – not sure what Yara, Yasmin, Yvette, Yvonne and Yelena did wrong. Yey. My brand new second hand laptop arrived this morning. So, to dual boot with the pre installed windows 11 or just go whole hog into Linux? I'm thinking of keeping windows and partitioning the hard drive mostly as a just in case I need it. Начал с Linux Mint 22.1 x86_64
В общем, привычная deb-система, приятная оболочка - Cinnamon 6.4.8. Смутило то, что это ещё на X11. Настроил систему, развернул проект, настроил свайпы для листания рабочих столов (привык я к ним уж очень).

Софт из Ubuntu репов. Чуть менее 1.5GB ОЗУ при загрузке.

Потыкаю ещё и продолжу эксперимент.

@linuxmint should include a Fediverse client, not only a Matrix client for support.

im trying out linux for the first time on a spare old laptop from like, 2015
im mainly using it to get a feel for linux, and hence, I am using Linux Mint due to its frequent mentions of ease of use and beginner-friendliness.
Should I use Cinnamon or Xfce?

My #Linux journey continues. A couple of hours of noodling has #LinuxMint looking and feeling very comfortable. Installing #VCVRack required a little bit of 'sudo fu' and some permissions fun so that the #VST showed up in #BitwigStudio - I will need to figure out how to make an executable script to launch VCV Rack in standalone rather than using the command prompt, but that should not prove to be too daunting #LinuxAudio - and so I am ready to start digging into some #ElectronicMusicProduction

Well, dang. Spent a few hours messing w/ audio stuff in Linux. No luck. Lots of helpful replies, though. Nice!

With

alsamixer f6 select sound card, nothing is muted levels are high. disabled auto mute.

Installed and ran pavucontrol. outputdevices/line out (plugged in), and I see the equalizer bouncing along doing its thing getting signal, even knows what's playing.

You'd think the speakers weren't plugged in. Except if I reboot windows 11, all is fine.
