Oh man, do I feel this comic.

Since starting to lead interdisciplinary projects, I´ve started to dread the "start of the meeting by introducing yourself" round.

"Hi, I´m a psychologist with a PhD in neuroscience who worked in pharma then in farm animal behaviour and welfare and now in farm animal welfare and sustainability and getting more and more into animal law" just doesn´t have the same ring as "Hi, I´m Jo, cardiologist."

This is the account of the Mathematics for Materials modelling (MatMat) group at the institutes at #EPFL lead by @herbst.

We work on #atomistic simulations of materials taking an #interdisciplinary point of view to make methods faster and understand their modelling errors. Our goal is to provide reliable simulation methods that help finding the materials of the future!

"DAWNLAND’s impact team follows a model established by our organization, the #UpstanderProject. We use film, intensive teacher professional development, and interactive educator tools to help bystanders become 'upstanders.' #Upstanders are people who stand up and speak out against #injustice. Our strategy is to use post-film discussions to teach the history that has been intentionally disavowed by the dominant culture, and build awareness and develop understanding of #NativePeoples and the issues that are important to them. We already had the wave of physicists, we are still waiting on the shoe to drop on topologists, but THE WAVE OF CRYPTOGRAPHERS INTO NEUROSCIENCE is the single most promising thing that i can imagine for the discipline. I have been wailing about this for years, but if as a neuroscientist prof you were to go to attend the cryptography 101 seminar at your university, you would be LITERALLY ON FIRE with good ideas and one million obvious experiments that should be done.

i sorta "give away free research agendas" as a way to survive in academia and the one i wish most someone would pick up on is NEUROSCIENTISTS COLLABORATE WITH CRYPTOGRAPHERS so they would hire me.
