One of the really great things about HomeKit, from Apple, is that it is a commercially supported way to do local control of devices across your LAN. I have devices that are commercial (VELUX skylight open/close device). I join it to my network, activate HomeKit on it, activate HomeKit on my HomeAssistant system, and now the #HomeAssistant can control it. No internet nor Apple devices, nor Apple services are required.
I proved this point last labor day by putting a shovel through the fiber optic that runs to my house.
I could still control my devices, even without internet!
They can’t take that away from me. (Have to make sure things don’t automatically update their firmware, or else they CAN take that away from me)
