Is anyone working on building an #OpenSource substack alternative? It’s blowing up since they added video and many voices of the opposition are flocking there building up large followings. It’s only a matter of time until that platform will become a tool for surveillance and or be shut down if the opposition gets mobilized. I’m assuming #Ghost has the best opportunity to provide an alternative that can be self hosted on servers outside the US but this will be vital to keep the movement alive!

Donations to The Debugger are temporarily down, which in the case of #Ghost rely on #Stripe by default. Now, Stripe decided to cancel The Debugger's account, just right after we published our article on #privacy . Coincidence? Probably yes. But we're looking for #onlinepayment alternatives out there, so if you have any suggestions (especially stuff that is not just Stripe or PayPal under the hood) they'll be much appreciated!

I am looking through documentation for #selfhosting #Ghost and its membership features.

I am silently repeating “you want a solution not another project”. How did this software get so popular?!

Want to send a newsletter? Use mailgun.
CDN? Here is a list of blogs how to hopefully exclude all paths and cookies - don’t expect support.
Payments? You really thought we’d support anything but stripe?

And don’t get me started on having to try to remember MySQL stuff which I last did late 90s…

She uses... #Substack for publishing. This is impossibly incongruous after her incendiary #TEDtalk

A Newsletter Writer Reflects On Leaving Substack

First, moving my monetization off of Substack wasn’t as big of a pain in the ass as I thought it would be

#Ghost as my new newsletter host...offered a concierge service that did almost all the work, porting over content and holding my hand... they charge a flat rate rather than taking 10% as Substack did

„However for all creators or potential creators, I will say again: leaving Substack behind is probably a better idea than staying no matter your circumstance, and it is easier than I thought it would be, and it costs less than I feared it would.“ — A.R. Moxon

MastodonA.R. Moxon, Verified Duck 🦆 (@JuliusGoat@mastodon.social)Hey my reflections on leaving Substack a year ago are on Techdirt. Isn't that neat? https://www.techdirt.com/2025/04/11/a-newsletter-writer-reflects-on-leaving-substack/

I did a blog 😊. CW #USpol

It’s on my #ghost blog, which is federated, so you can follow @index in masto if you want :donki:

I’m not gonna blog about politics very much, but I started making a long thread and it got unwieldy, so now it’s a blog post

tl;dr: the system is fucked and trump out of power doesn’t change that. We need:

Term limits for SCOTUS
Public election funding
Yeet the Electoral College
End gerrymandering
Guarantee voting rights

A functioning democracy doesn't just slide into fascism — this has happened because of problems left festering for a very long time. And the solution isn't just to get Dems elected. It's not enough to ping pong between sanity and chaos against a backdrop of dysfunction. Structural

April is National Poetry Month in the US and – seeing as it might be the last one – I’m celebrating by sharing recently-released recordings of poems from my collection Noisesome Ghosts made by Graham Farram.

[184] “A Ghost of the Stage Door, Canberra Theatre Centre” (2071-)

The second song from the upcoming #Ghost album Skeletá just dropped, and musically #Lachryma is a fun 80’s horror pastiche, with a chorus leaning towards glam rock. But more than anything, it’s awesome seeing this new incarnation of the band and of course Papa V. And seeing a mouth moving for the first time in 15 years as he is singing, that’s something!
