I love Garuda, but ditched it on my work machine as it was too slow. Arch is much, much faster (e.g. compiling source code).</p><p>The two big differences between my Garuda and Arch installs were the zen kernel Vs the regular Arch kernel and btrfs Vs ext4. All other things were AFAiCT the same (i3, javac version, mount options). Of the two, I suspect btrfs to be the culprit. Haven't dug into it more, though. Reinstalling using Arch, with disk encryption, yielded an instant performance boost when developing large java applications.</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/archlinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>archlinux</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/btrfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>btrfs</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/GarudaLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GarudaLinux</span></a></p>

Definitely got the <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/ArchLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ArchLinux</span></a> charm, the live disc immediately crashed into a black screen. </p><p>To be fair, Gnome was visible for about… 0.3 seconds! :thisisfine: <br><a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a></p>

tl:dr; which Linux distro should I recommend for a gamer?

Someone asked me about gaming on Linus. They are currently using Proton on MX but want to move away from MX. I know nothing about gaming..

My Mind went to Sparky Game Over edition but it seems to have been discontinued - Is Garuda the way to go? Using a downstream Arch distro seems like such a paradox but maybe I am missing something.. Also I don't want to recommend anything Ubuntu/Red Hat based..

Hello #linux desktop #GarudaLinux and byebye #windows11.
I realize this may be really old stuff for linux desktop users but i never used #FishShell before and i got instantly hooked by its abbreviation feature, besides it's also nice to see the branch im currently in.

I'm using it for only a few days now but it already does everything i use on a daily basis, i did not expect it to run this smoothly.

I only got experience with debian/ubuntu and rhel/fedora until now so arch has a lot of new stuff but well, i got time to learn.

A few days late on my #introduction

I'm a married father of one kid and two #cats. My hobbies include #Linux, #gaming (especially #LinuxGaming), #computers, #cycling, and #photography. I do programming to support all of this and more. Languages I program in include #PHP, #NodeJS, and #go (or #golang).

I'm a big fan of #System76 (I've bought 3 laptops over the past few decades), though I build my own gaming PCs (currently running #GarudaLinux).

So, um, hello!
