Digital Game Based Learning mit Gerrit Neundorf (Medienpädagoge)

#moodle #FediLZ #gamification

"In every job that must be done
There is an element of fun
You find the fun, and, snap!
The job's a game!"

I just realised that Mary Poppins invented gamification decades before the word was coined.

(I admit, I was distracted by the sugar, since *adding* sugar implies that the "element of fun" is imposed on the job rather than something which can be *found* in the job. And I prefer the latter much more than the former.)

I just stumble on the article "Gamification makes about as much sense as chocolate-dipped broccoli" by @ASegar
conferencesthatwork.com/index.

It resonates so strongly with me. For me #gamification has such a strong manipulative touch, introduces vanity metric and often is based on competition 🤮

And don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of games in a professional setting (and my job)
But as #SeriousGames or playful interventions.

Examples for a Serious Games are emergency drills and exercises. They create a save environment to experience certain elements of reality and enable collective learning.
Are they fun? Not necessarily, or probably not. YOu will experience stress and anxiety like it would be real. But the designe of the Game/simulation can control this. And possibly they are "fun" in hindsight. You have a laugh on what went catastrophically wrong (but nobody got harmed because it was a game)

Playful interventions are "games" or activities which are completely unrelated to the task at hand. They can be used to cause a "reset", let you get away from a intellectual exercise to something physical and through this enable new perspectives or a "fresh start"
Examples would be #HappySalmon or #BodySongs

But not every Playful intervention fits for everyone

I'm looking forward to the @play4agile to discover new possibilities fror both 🙂

#Gamification for #energy #saving in consumer/commercial #driving:

An app is downloaded to a vehicle, which collects information about the driving (of course plenty of possible limitations regarding accurate measures, but for the sake of simplicity, let's say particle emissions and l/100km driven as the two main metrics, plenty other options could be added)

The vehicle gets a profile, and a performance score that updates as the vehicle drives more. Other performance scores... (1/?)
