Traces of a morning walk in the Otago Peninsula, north of Dunedin, New Zealand

Take nothing but pictures,
Leave nothing but footprints,
Kill nothing but time,
Keep nothing but memories,

I accept and am a firm follower of these travellers ethos and credos.

“[T]he directors Ái Vuong and Samuel Díaz Fernández highlight how little regard [SpaceX] and lawmakers have shown for the #human and nonhuman #animal populations that have called this slice of #land home long before #SpaceX broke ground there in 2014. i´m not any good in reading foot prints, but i wonder who is wanering around the house and it looks like a big cat, maybe a lynx? 🤔
too huge for the neithbour´s cat or a fox and i guess too narrow chain of prints for a wolf 🤔 also wolverines may pass by here..
there is almost no snow left, found yesterday just a small area near a river - there were also lots of deers´ prints around, but that´s not new - they live here and walk and jump around all the time during the day 😃

These footprints appeared in the snow around 4am, according to Maggie. Any idea what creature may have walked on my stairs and through my garden? I suspect a fox or a cat, but I don't know how I would rule out a raccoon or any other mammal around that size.

The discovery of the world’s oldest human footprint in South Africa profoundly connects us to our ancient past. Over 150,000 years ago, someone walked across the Earth, leaving a trace that has survived millennia. It’s a reminder of our shared journey as a species—how we’ve adapted, endured, and thrived. These footprints echo not just history but the resilience and continuity of human life.
