Mobile phones are rapidly enshittifying. I'm typing this on an iPhone, but they're going to start snooping inside your own photos soon, and Android is ceasing sideloading. I guess I'm getting a refurbed Android and putting Linux on it? It's too soon. Linux for phones is pretty clunky at this point, from what I'm reading, but what choice are they leaving us?

Ein etwas längerer, aber sehr lesenswerter Artikel darüber, wie Google Einfluss auf das Web (und die Mozilla Stiftung) nimmt:
wok.oblomov.eu/tecnologia/goog (🇬🇧)

@neil pointed me to this: developer.android.com/develope

This will make alternative app stores like #fdroid mostly useless on #android devices with a stock rom, since most apps won't install at all, unless also available through the play store.

Being the dev of the #floss #apps #TinyWeatherForecastGermany and #imagepipe, it is unlikely that the apps will be available for devices running a stock rom in the future, since I likely won't share my private keys with G****e nor will I give them a copy of my ID.

Starting my keyboard-(almost-)only, tilingWM journey some years ago with Herbstluftwm over i3/sway, it has now been tweaked near to perfection with NIRI. Everything's extremely fast and responsive, check out this screencast!

As with Sway, I can handle KeepassXC-CLI shortcut integration with no plugins needed.
Pass has been a solid choice, too.
Qutebrowser is not the only one in town to handle vim-like keybinding (but a good one 😉).
And yeah, dystopian Fallout retro is the stylish way to go the KISS way 😍

It's very expensive but I had a few reasons for choosing the Combustion Predictive Wireless Thermometer.

1. I find using a wired thermometer difficult when I have to turn the food

2. Using a predictive thermometer changes using a thermometer to something like a file transfer window where you get an estimate when it will be complete

3. This one can use, but doesn't need an app. I'm sick of apps, and that's a big deal to me.

4. The source code to their apps are FLOSS (MIT license) and they they expose a documented API and invite people to use it.

5. I've heard this company does customer service well, including replacing parts you may have broken yourself.

6. The owner of the company makes really informative Youtube videos on experimental cooking, sometimes he uses his thermometer, but not always. He seems genuine in caring about cooking.

All this makes me willing to pay more for his product vs some others.

@tauon I thought you would appreciate #Mineclonia on #luanti a pretty faithful #FLOSS #minecraft clone, not 100% complete but definitely in a very playable state and been actively updated since it began life as fork from Mineclone2 with the purpose of being closer to minecraft, Ive played a couple dozen hours and really enjoyed it. Its got a weird mix of an alpha vibe worldgen * assets mixed in with some of the modern features like lots of flowers bees, banners. world is 32k x 32k x 32k (xyz)

I kind of buried myself in Linux stuff because I needed an apolitical hobby.

Turns out, Linux is not apolitical, which I should have known to start with.

That said, the parts of Linux I haunt are progressive-to-anarchist in their politics, so I don't mind. :)

I'm encountering a bug in #Waterfox where every time I start the app, it opens on a page that is one, specific extension I use (#Substitoot, if that matters). I've reset the "Home" options in Settings every which way I can imagine, but when I start the program, I can watch as it loads up a page with that one extension.

Any ideas for how to fix this? It's mostly just annoying.
