This search engine treats the whole web as a unified ecosystem where I can navigate as a single unit, not simply a federation of separate servers. I strongly believe that this kind of thinking is the future of the #Fediverse and #ActivityPub.

If anyone else is doing work like this, please let me know. So far, I believe this search feature of #Emissary is the only one of its kind, and we should build a community that works to push this forward.

Just discovered Emissary. It’s a social web toolkit that’s “designed for end users, app creators, and hosting admins”. It’s a highly customizable and scalable ActivityPub-enabled server software with few dependencies.

Only two known servers currently use #Emissary, but one of them is highly prominent: bandwagon.fm.

This has lots of potential if you want to build federated social web software with a specific use case scenario in mind.

Here’s the website:

I'd just like to say: it's been almost exactly three months since @n00q proposed the idea for #Bandwagon at the FediForum conference.

And now here we are, getting the first few beta testers online.

That timeline (minus a two-week, tech-free family trip to Europe) makes me pretty proud of what #Emissary can do.

If you're a musician or indie band, I'd love to make a profile for you. Join the waitlist at bandwagon.fm

Wanna host your own bandwagon? I'd love to help set that up, too 🤘🏻

HEY! Check out this update to my #Emissary demo I posted a couple weeks ago:

We're working to make a #Federated alternative to #Bandcamp where up and coming bands can connect with fans and share their music on the Fediverse.

The progress is really encouraging, so it's time to get some feedback from real #musicians

My goal is to have something you could actually use in the next month or two. So please get your ideas in so's I can squeeze them into my launch calendar.

@alisynthesis @n00q Thanks, Allison. Until a few weeks ago I hadn’t looked into any of this 😳 But now I am familiar with #Faircamp

I love static site generators, but I don’t think they work for regular people - too much command line for grandma to use.

There is a place for an easy-to-sign-up website, though. So my current thought is to open source this #Emissary app for musicians, then also host it as a paid but really cheap service for musicians to use.
