Either this family of Australian Wood Ducks had a late hatching, or have adopted a lost duckling, as one of the brood is a few weeks younger than the rest.

On the way to the carpark after work yesterday, I found a little family of ducklings.

A pair of very fluffy wood duck ducklings on mown grass. Both are facing right, walking, with heads down as they graze.

A Wonga Pigeon at home yesterday arvo, and then today, the first day on campus, a family of Pacific Black Ducks. They were all busy shovelling under the azolla (water fern), and were still at it this arvo when we left.

Die schwarzen Entenküken noch mal aus der Nähe. Da sie im Hinüberschen Garten in #Hannover aufwachsen, sind sie gaffende Menschen gewohnt und ignorierten mich. Schwarz-weiß gefleckter Kükenfluff ist einfach einmalig flauschig.

On the off chance anyone that follows me knows someone or has been in this situation, my daughter and I rescued a duckling this morning trying to cross a busy main road. We searched both sides where it could have come from, no mom or siblings in sight. I’m striking out on finding any rehabbers who take waterfowl, so if anyone has advice on how to take care of this cutie, if the last place I called won’t take it, I’d appreciate it.
