A Coastal Haven in West Cork
The Baltimore Beacon on one side and Sherkin Island on the other, while we travelled to that island on a day trip, the same day as this photo of the Wallis Buoy.

Seagull’s Perch on Wallis Buoy
Ah, the majestic Wallis buoy. It's a beacon of maritime sophistication and seagull real estate. On my way to Sherkin Island, I came upon this floating masterpiece, complete with a solar panel that probably powers the seagull’s Netflix subscription. The bird, perched confidently atop its throne, seemed to be enforcing the 6 km speed limit with all the authority of a traffic warden who’s had one too many cups of tea.

Rural Banter in Cork
Tucked away on the serene Sherkin Island in County Cork, I stumbled upon a timeless moment that felt plucked from another era. Two older men, clearly no strangers to the soil beneath them, were deep in conversation.
This photo was taken in 2015 while on a visit to the island. I hope they are still living on the island, chatting away.

Next Stop: Shopping in Cork
Three women wait at the traffic lights on Grand Parade. They’ve all been shopping in NEXT.
It’s odd what Lightroom sometimes does to a photo when you correct for lens distortion.

Just a random product recommendation for wine fans: splurge on The Durand. The device has a stupid name and is expensive ($145), but it is capable of extracting corks that are almost disintegrated. You first use the spiral corker, then slide in the two-pronged puller. Super handy if you encounter old bottles of wine. I take it with me to BYOB restaurants so that I don't have to watch in horror as waiter corks the bottle with a standard device. #wine #cork #alcohol

I saw a warship docked outside of my office in #cork yesterday as I was leaving for the evening. I looked up it's name (William Butler Yeats) on Wikipedia and found that it was an Irish patrol ship. It's neat working next to an active port, you never know what you're going to see!
Tomás MacCurtain, the Sinn Féin Lord Mayor of Cork, was shot dead in front of his wife and son by a group of men with blackened faces on 20th March 1920. The murderers were subsequently found by the official inquest into the event to be members of the Royal Irish Constabulary. MacCurtain was also commandant of the Cork No. 1 Brigade of the IRA.
