During Emperor Saga's time a terrible epidemic struck. Kūkai (空海) advised him to copy out the Heart Sutra, and sure enough the plague was ended. The original is displayed every 60 years (next in 2078).
In 876 Saga's daughter, Princess Masako, turned the palace into Daikaku-ji.

I guess we should have full bloom before the end of the week. The cold weather these past few days (after warm days just before) may have slowed down the process a little? Luckily starting tomorrow, we're having temperatures that are seasonal (such a rare thing these days)
Happy Monday to all! Sunday brought better-than-expected weather, so after my previously mentioned musical adventure, the wife and I went around the neighborhood in Maenocho, Itabashi, where the cherry blossoms have now reached a quite nice stage. Here is a first set of four photos; another set will come tomorrow.

Daikaku-ji (大覚寺) stands by the banks of Ōsawa-no-ike (大沢池), the oldest artificial pond in Japan.
With a diameter of about 1km, it is theorised that the pond was created for moon-viewing, which would make it the oldest moon-viewing spot in Kyōto.
for jemli's friend, they're a big gentle macro dragon for macro march, but still get to enjoy the beginning of the cherry blossoms.
