From the results I can see there is a solid group of Korn Shell users but I'm a bit surprised abouth the C Shell. I didn't though there was such a difference betwen the number of CSH users and KSH users. I guess part of it is because Korn is more similar to Bourne.

Thank you all for taking part and for your comments. I learned some things 🙂

In short

Nothing from the internet should be trusted

From that perspective it would mean that you would have to write / program all code of everything that you need yourself, including the whole Operating System and all the kernel modules.

In reality that's not doable

You take the same amount of risks when you use a distribution. Provided that you download those sources from the websites from the coders themselves.

also complaining about things like "oh people make #linux software #systemd dependent" yeah its also like systemd was invented to address a bunch of specific issues that ancient init script based systems cannot deal with

you cannot just 'not use systemd' when developing many linux applications, and it should not be the responsibility of the linux developers to port the applications to #bsd which is essentially like backporting your apps to slackware 1.0

the burden here CLEARLY falls on netbsd/freebsd/openbsd to create subsystems for porting or emulating linux and other apps

literally no other operating system has done as much to support other OSes than linux as far as filesystems, subsystems, networking and everything else

bsd in contrast has done _nothing_ on any of these fronts except port a handful of linux utilities.

True minimalism!!! I definitely have to try it 🤣

"Mwm: an X11 window manager in 20 lines of code

Is KDE too much for you? GNOME tries to do too much? Xfce still a bit too fancy? Do you need something smaller? Even more minimalist? What about a mere 20 lines of code which provide the absolute barest possible minimum of window management functionality?

You need mwm."

@farooqkz I feel its simply due to the nature of how the various #BSD projects are developed synchronously on one unified source tree, whereas the #Linux world is so used to asynchronous development on many many source trees. this means that imho, #Linux has a natural tendency to split and fracture wheras the #BSD world is more likely to be focused and unified in efforts on the ecosystem en masse.
