Via dell'Archiginnasio

On your left there is Palazzo dell'Archiginnasio and on your right, a sliver of the Basilica to San Petronio.
Construction started on the Basilica in 1390 - alla Sagrada Familia style - they were still building it in 1514 when a new architect was brought on to build the dome. Legend has it that Pope Pius IV halted the construction of the "megalomaniac dream" and encouraged the building of the Archiginnasio.
The Archiginnasio is one of the most important buildings in Bologna. It was the main hub of the University. It now houses the Anatomical Theatre and The Archeological Museum.
We got the Archiginnasio but the Basilica has never been finished. 😂
Follow for more lazy recaps of Bolognese history!😂😂😂

"The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel was built by Percier and Fontaine in circa 1806 to 1808 to celebrate the Napoleonic victories of 1805, and it was originally intended as a monumental entrance to the Tuileries palace."

“Louis IX is the only canonized king of France and the only Capetian king of France with an equestrian statue. His equestrian statue is placed above the entrance of the Sacré-Coeur in Paris.”

I had a really hard time making this image during a super moon. For those who know Marseille, this is one of the angels that adorn the basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde. There are very few angles to achieve perfect alignment of this angel with the super moon and I only had a few seconds to take this image with a very large telephoto lens. Voilà !

How I took this photo ? Panasonic GH4 Tamron 150-600 mm f5-6,3 x 2 so 1200 mm 1/1000e f6,3 Iso 500 Manual Raw Not IA natural light

“Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar” — Dusk view of the Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar and the Ebro River, Zaragoza, Spain.

As the new year begins we are still thinking about our travels at the end of the old year. In late 2024 we spent six weeks visiting in Germany, France, Spain, and New York City — and we’ve only been back a few days. This photograph comes from Zaragoza, Spain, one of the pleasant surprises of this trip. We spent several days there and we loved the place. Seen here is the Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar, a remarkable cathedral on the banks of the Ebro River…continues: gdanmitchell.com/2025/01/01/ba
