Yvan<p>On the Frootloop Monkeytosh computer front the key thing is: AeroSpace: <a href="https://github.com/nikitabobko/AeroSpace" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/nikitabobko/AeroSpa</span><span class="invisible">ce</span></a></p><p>If you're a "tiling" Window Manager user like me then AeroSpace totally transforms the Mac experience. You can almost forget there's a mouse attached. It's all very familiar if you're an XMonad* user. It isn't quite perfectly seamless, but it's a whole other world of usability for me.</p><p>I've got quite a nice modernised setup working at the moment, with AeroSpace, iTerm2, Fish shell, Atuin shell history, and Neovim... still more to enhance, I've barely dipped my toe in with Neovim's capabilities (and currently have nothing like my old vim uber-config running, that's on the TODO list.)</p><p>* My dev-box window manager history is: WindowMakXer =&gt; FVWM =&gt; PWM =&gt; Ion =&gt; XMonad... admittedly this home desktop currently runs XFCE because I've never really needed it to be a hardcore coding environment.</p><p><a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/WindowManager" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WindowManager</span></a> <a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/Apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Apple</span></a> <a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/AppleMac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppleMac</span></a> <a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/Macintosh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Macintosh</span></a> <a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/Dev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dev</span></a> <a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/Coding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Coding</span></a></p>

Götz Hoffart<p>Welcher Windows-Manager, der für Linux verfügbar ist, kann innerhalb einer laufenden Drag-&amp;-Drop-Operation (d.h. Ramin Honary<blockquote><p>How can people work with the macOS window manager?!</p></blockquote><p><span class="h-card"><a class="u-url mention" href="https://masto.ai/@simondassow" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>simondassow</span></a></span> the MacOS window manager is really one of the worst I have ever used.</p><p>I strongly prefer to use apps in maximized windows because each app (Blender, Gimp, Emacs, a terminal emulator) has it’s own unique workflow that works best in maximized windows. However when I maximize windows in MacOS and switch between them with the Control-Left/Right arrows, it waits a quarter of a second to animate the screen transition. During this animated transition <strong>it drops all keystrokes events.</strong></p><p>So I might switch from one app to another and press some keys to do something only to discover that the keys I pressed were ignored because I didn’t wait just long enough for the animated screen transition to finish. When switching to a terminal emulator or Emacs, these dropped keystrokes can actually <strong>change the command that I enter</strong> by accident, which can (and often does) corrupt data in the files I am working on.</p><p>On Linux, all window managers transition between desktop workspaces instantly, even if there is an animation key events are not dropped. It honestly feels like Mac OS is fucking with me, deliberately trying to slow me down when I am trying to get work done.</p><p>Yes, I tried to disable the screen animations, it doesn’t seem to be possible. The best I could do was use the fastest transition, which is a fade-in.</p><p><a class="hashtag" href="https://fe.disroot.org/tag/tech" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#tech</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://fe.disroot.org/tag/software" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#software</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://fe.disroot.org/tag/macos" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#MacOS</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://fe.disroot.org/tag/windowmanager" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#WindowManager</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://fe.disroot.org/tag/linux" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Linux</a></p>
