Simon Phipps<p>I'm struck by how important the Berne Convention is to the global adoption of <a href="https://meshed.cloud/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a>. Without it software copyright would be a hotchpotch of different principles and policies in different countries and standardised licensing would be ineffective at delivering <a href="https://meshed.cloud/tags/SoftwareFreedom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SoftwareFreedom</span></a> globally.</p><p>Seduced by that experience of uniform global law, we somehow believe global open licensing for other forms of expression will be easy. It will not. It may not even be possible.</p>
