If you're in the #Cambridge area and looking for #work, like small very #startup-y environments, and appreciate good coffee/drinks and BBQs at an office* in a rural setting then they're ("we're"?) hiring: careers.flok.health/

Codebase is mainly Python and TypeScript with some Rust on the side, but things are very much a moving target.

Oh, they're hiring in #physiotherapy too!

Software developers and physiotherapists... it isn't your normal software company. (And note that it is NOT a GenAI company.)

Hiring seems to be at least just as hard now as I recall from 10 years ago... and I know it's also hard from the job-seeking direction too, it took me months of mostly never even getting acknowledgements to applications for jobs I'd selected as a very good fit, taken the time to tailor cover letters for, etc... it was hell.

* 4 days per week on-site.

By the by, I'm a #SoftwareDev #LookingForWork - I'm Sydney based, although willing to relocate to Vatican City for the right role. I do everything from frontend to backend to infra, I love filling in gaps and uplifting my team and delving into scary legacy code.

Best with JS/Perl/C++/Java but can learn anything at this point. The tech is not as important as the team. I'm a big fan of observability and internal tooling to help the Support team.

One thing I will say about Rust, is that simply learning it has made me a better programmer. Similar to how a static-typed language teaches its users concepts about types, (which you may take for granted if you learned programming with Java and have never met a python developer,) Rust has taught me a lot of concepts related to memory safety and concurrency simply from using it to write software.

On #iOS (18) there ought to be a way to [Speak Text] time (easy, done) after alarm goes off via “Shortcuts” application!

Ideally spoken time would be alarm action/tone.

Setting the alarm from input is easily done. Combining the 2 needs work.

Could get the time for “alarm”; instead of [Create Alarm For], would calculate the time difference (wrt current time; already done previously for its own use) to [Wait] before “speak-time”.

My hobbies include open-source software development, retro-computing, and gaming. I have a number of open-source projects, and I'd love to hear about yours too! My favorite game to date is the original Life is Strange, which actually helped me discover my trans identity.

For all #softwaredev #programmer #cloudengineer types out there, what energy audit tools are out there right now that people could start leveraging to evaluate their code for being more efficient from a "reduce fossil fuel consumption" point of view?

Static analysis, CI tools, etc. All ideas welcome.

@grafana I feel like something like this is in your wheelhouse. Also, any @cncfambassadors in the environmental sustainment TAG know of some tooling?
