The #storm system that has brought a taste of late #winter back to the #Northland continues Monday night.

Everyone will continue to deal with strong #wind gusts.

The South Shore snowbelt region will see the most #snowfall through Tuesday morning. Accumulation could be up to 9 inches.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Gogebic and Ontonagon counties from 8 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025, through 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025 (Eastern Daylight Time). A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Iron County for this same time period. Snowfall Monday night and Tuesday morning could lead up to 9 inches of accumulation on grassy surfaces and lesser traveled roadways.

One snowfall forecast model over the South Shore snowbelt region of the Northland shows a corridor of over 6 inches of snowfall over the Hurley/Ironwood region, extending northeast across the Porcupine Mountains. Accumulation totals decrease as one heads away from this area.

Wind speeds will remain strong across the Northland Monday night and Tuesday morning, regardless of what snow showers you see. Gusts will be over 30 mph at times, especially along the North Shore region.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect for the North Shore region of the Northland until 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025 (Central Daylight Time). Wind speeds will be highest and stay strong the longest over this area, with gusts up to 45 mph or higher possible.

FINAL SNOWFALL TOTALS:

The third major #storm system to impact the #Northland this week is over.

As #forecasted, the North Shore saw the highest #snowfall totals over the past few days with 12 to 15 inches recorded.

The rest of the #Minnesota side north of Highway 2 saw the next highest totals of 6 to 10 inches.

Amounts were below 6 inches elsewhere thanks to the storm's #dryslot limiting precipitation.

The highest snowfall totals recorded from a storm system that passed through the Northland April 1 through April 3, 2025, were along the North Shore region. They were 15.2-inches in Hovland, Minnesota, 14.4-inches in Wolf Ridge, Minnesota, 13.1-inches in Tofte, Minnesota, 12.2-inches in Grand Marais, Minnesota, 11.8-inches in Silver Bay, Minnesota, 11.7-inches near Two Harbors, Minnesota, and 9.7-inches in the Duluth, Minnesota area.

Other snowfall totals recorded in the Northland away from the North Shore between April 1, 2025 and April 3, 2025, include 9-inches in Celina, Minnesota, 8.7-inches in Northome, Minnesota, 8.4-inches in Orr, Minnesota, 7-inches in Wrenshall, Minnesota, 6-inches in Washburn, Wisconsin, and 5-inches in Poplar, Wisconsin.

The #storm system bringing #snow #showers to the #Northland is focusing its impact on the #Minnesota side of the region.

#Blizzard Warning continues along the North Shore, and plenty of #snowfall totals are coming in.

The Blizzard Warning continues for the North Shore region of the Northland until 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2025. The Winter Storm Warning continues for Aitkin, Carlton, northern Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, northern Lake, and St. Louis counties until 1 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025.

The radar over the Northland at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, shows snow showers focused over the Minnesota section of the region. Some of the heaviest snowfall is taking place north of Highway 2 in St. Louis and Lake counties.

Snowfall totals have been coming in throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening in the Arrowhead and North Shore regions from today's snowfall. Some of the highest totals include 9.2-inches in Hovland, 8.3-inches in Grand Marais, and 7-inches in Lutsen.

Road conditions in the Northland as of Wednesday evening are showing either partially covered or completely covered where snow showers have passed through. The worst driving is likely along Highway 61 along the North Shore and surrounding roads due to blizzard-like conditions with heavy snowfall and wind gusts over 35 mph.

We have one more big surge of #showers, which could contain heavy #snowfall, this afternoon and evening.

The satellite and radar over the Northland at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, shows mostly scattered snow showers over the region. Some mixed precipitation is being observed by the radar scans over northwest Wisconsin. Heavy snowfall is being observed in the Twin Cities region, and is making its way towards our area.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2025, for Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis counties. Snowfall totals of 2 to 7 inches is possible in these counties, with the highest totals and strongest wind gusts along the North Shore. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Pine, Sawyer, and Washburn counties until 4 p.m. Wednesday. Up to 2 inches of additional snowfall is possible with a glaze of icy accumulation.

Temperatures in the Northland just after 1 p.m. on April 2, 2025, range from 28 to 34 degrees Fahrenheit.

Wind gusts observed across the Northland just after 1 p.m. on April 2, 2025, range from 18 to 43 mph. Wind direction is primarily from the east and northeast.

The #Northland will be impacted by a strong Colorado Low #storm system from Tuesday night through early Thursday morning.

It will be #winter-like with plenty of #snow #showers. The North Shore and northeast #Minnesota will see the highest #snowfall totals, ranging from 6 to 18 inches.

My snowfall forecast for the Northland from the evening of Tuesday, April 1, through the morning of Thursday, April 3, 2025, has 12 to 18 inches of accumulation along the North Shore, topping all locations. Most of the Minnesota side will see 6 to 12 inches of snowfall. The exceptions will by the Boundary Waters and the I-35 corridor, with 4 to 8 inches of snowfall. Snowfall totals will decrease from west to east across northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula, from 6 inches to 1 inch.

While snow showers will be widespread across the Northland Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, the past of the storm system's center will allow warmer air and more scattered showers over northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula starting late Wednesday morning. That means the mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow will limit total snowfall in these area. Northeast Minnesota will see all snow showers throughout this system.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the North Shore region of the Northland from 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025, through 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2. This area will see 12 to 18 inches of snowfall with wind gusts up to 45 mph.

The satellite and radar over the Northland at 1:35 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, shows most area under cloud cover, expect for the tip of the Arrowhead region. The radar shows snow showers and light rain being detected in the clouds, but none of it over the Northland is reaching the ground at this time.

A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect for Aitkin, Bayfield, Carlton, Cook, Douglas, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, Pine, and St. Louis counties from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening. While forecast #snowfall totals could shift, it is likely the #Minnesota side of the #Northland will see at least 6-inches by Wednesday night. The North Shore will see at least 12-inches in spots.

Minor #ice accumulations, up to 0.1", are possible in northwest #Wisconsin and the #UpperPeninsula.

A #thunderstorm or two also cannot be ruled out for Wednesday.

My forecast for snowfall across the Northland for Tuesday, April 1, 2025, through Wednesday, April 2, 2025 (as of late Monday afternoon) is for the North Shore to see the highest totals of 10 to 18 inches. Expect 6 to 12 inches over the rest of the Arrowhead, the Iron Range, and the Minnesota side of the Twin Ports regions. 5 to 10 inches is likely in the Rainy River Basin, with 3 to 8 inches in the I-35 corridor and the Wisconsin side of the Twin Ports regions. Snowfall will decrease to 2 to 4 inches for the rest of northwest Wisconsin, with up to 2 inches in the Upper Peninsula.

With mixed precipitation likely to mix in with snow showers Wednesday, April 2, 2025, some spots in northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula will see up to 0.1-inches of ice accumulation.

There is the possibility of a few thunderstorms to pass through the Northland during the next storm system on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. They would likely occur over northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. Small hail cannot be ruled out.

A crisp October morning in the Pulju Wilderness Area, Finland, in 2023. I was surprised by snowfall during this hike and didn't have skis with me, which made movement sluggish and difficult. There was approximately 15-20cm of snow.
